Hi,

First post so straight in at the deep end!!

As per the title there is a C4 I have stumbled across with 198,000 miles on the clock.

Has this one bucked the trend for general 996 related (or perceived) issues (RMS, Bore issues etc), or has it been lovingly looked after. Would assume that its been a motorway mile muncher, and maybe even taken to the continent on occasion.

Not seen it in the flesh as I'm not sure I'm brave enough to take on a car knocking on the door of 200k, but was just curious if this is a PH members ex car or they could shed some light on it.

Thanks in advance

Loving the steering wheel cover - I guess what's underneath is as shiny as a very shiny thing!!

If you're thinking about buying this car, I'd want to spend a few hours going through the service history/records/invoices/receipts etc and see what has been replaced. Might be a 'triggers broom' and have had everything replaced at some point.

Aside from the steering wheel which is trivial it looks pretty good. For 8K I'd give it a crack!

I would actually take a punt on that myself, it looks clean enough.

As above though, make sure it has been serviced properly and that during the test drive it feels OK.

Almost worth it as a track only car?

With a bit of hunting, you can find a car with half the mileage of this one for a grand more. At 5k it'd be the right money...which is what, I would imagine, it owes the trader.

Thanks for all the replies so far.

I might give the trader a call and see what the documentation is like, just in case it turns out to be a Triggers broom.

Was originally browsing 3.2 Boxters when I stumbled across this. In all honestly Id prefer a tin top so will keep my eyes peeled over the coming months

I just bought a 996.2 C2 tip with 112K on the clock. FPSH and it looks and feels lovely. I would take a punt but i cant see it being worth more than buttons in a couple of years time. My pork, being 5 years and a trip round the world worse off than the 350z i sold, feels like a much more solid car. But for 10K odd i am sure you can find something a little less galactically miled.

I am of the opinion though that if anything bad was to happen to the engine it would have happened by 200k!

Unfortunately, it doesn't cost 5 year old TDI Golf money to run because it's a 911. Now don't get me wrong, this could be bargain of the century but going over the bills with a fine tooth comb would be pretty essential. A new steering wheel wouldn't break the bank if it is a bit shiny and a 6k reserve would cover the engine being rebuilt by Hartech or Autofarm. The big question is whether you would want to pay that sort of money on a car worth 8k.

Obviously there is a downside to bargain basement 911 ownership, but its still a lot of car for the money.

if you get it for the right moeny it could be a little gem, but you have to be realistic about how long you keep it and how much money you put in, as it will never be worth more than you pay for it, but once you are the bad side of 200k, 10k here or there is not going to swing the value much.

My 944T is at 228,500 and still feels solid and strong, but it will never be worth more than £2k, so do I keep putting cash in to keep it on the road, or do I cut my losses and spend out on a newer/lower mileage car? Would that be more troublesome than my current one and end up costing me more? Who knows??!!

When I bought mine at 194k I did the absolute minimum for the first year to see how it behaved with the view that if it didn't let me down I would splash some cash on it, and if it did descend into a pile of something smelly I was only in for just over £3k so could walk away.

Here I am 3 years, 34,000 miles and £4,500 later which makes it my cheapest ever car mile for mile!
