56 plate Basalt black 86k Miles on here.......www.routeonecars.com....2 previous owners not 1
FPSH to 80k, being serviced tomorrow by JMG Bournemouth.

Once the service has been done JMG will call to confirm no major problmes and then will carry out a 520 point PPI.

I have agreed 23650 subject to successful PPI.

Any thoughts +ve or -ve very much appreciated

Whilst it sounds like they'll be changing the spark plugs anyway, ask them to stick a boroscope in there and check the bores are OK. Everything else you're doing sounds right, oh and if it's manual get a rev range report too. If it's all good then get out and enjoy it. smiledriving

If its the 997 one on the website and it checks out, thats a good price for that car. Very nice. Its also not far from where i live...forgot about this garage.

Thanks, I'm trying to find the balance between being diligent and doing the research without being too fussy.
Find the car at the right price and have the conviction to go for it......with a successful PPI as the sign off.

I just wanted to ensure given it's my first foray into such a car (Orignally had a deposit down on an XK Jag) that I was making an informed and well balanced purchase.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow

520 point PPI.
thats some PPI, at one item every 30 seconds thats four hours! Unless its body present, tick, bonnet present, tick, washers work, tick.

As another said, look at the bores and see if the left exhaust is more sooty than the right.

OP - judging by the title - you only want positive comments???

OP: What are your thoughts regarding warranty? Are you going to be happy to run it without one or with the (presumed) 3 months warranty you get from the selling dealer?

edit: If you're getting it serviced by someone other than Porsche that might not be an option anyway.

+1 regarding checking of the bores and also warranty.

With this mileage, I'd feel a lot happier with some type of decent warranty on top of the 3 months, just make sure it's worth the paper it's written on.

Good luck, great cars, I've just bought a Gen.2 C2S and love it.

a 20k supercar will cost just as much as an 80k supercar to fix if it goes wrong!

re warranty, ultimately like any car it is a gamble.

My thought process:
Find a reasonably priced well specced car
Get a full PPI done
Make do with the 3 mth warranty and then assess.

History does not predict futre events but I've yet to claim on any warranty on ANY car I've owned. If the PPI comes through fautless my idea was to save any warranty fees and use that to pay for further work. Again I know there are no guarantees BUT I think I'm doing all I can to ensure that the car and the mechanics are sound........you pays your money you makes your choice.

I guess the title was misleading perhaps.....
'Sensible choice or not?'

would have been more appropriate I guess smile

I hear what you're saying, but with a Porsche, like any supercar, the stakes of the gamble are higher than a run of the mill car.

New engine or rebuild 10k upwards ?

Everything you're doing with the PPI is sensible, so Good Luck.

The obvious thing to bear in mind is that whilst the car will have depreciated the parts & labour cost won't have really changed (risen with inflation in fact) since it was a 80k car rolling out of the forecourt.

You can obviously fix things with used parts, but the big bills - if they occur - will be eye-watering.

You should get the engine broken down to all its working parts on the workshop floor, then re built with photographic record and signed of by Metzger As fit for purpose. You want a ten year gaurantee , unconditional that is , finally get the dealer to reduce the price by twenty percent .rolleyes

As for 520 check that's no where near enough covering all the working parts jester

Or you could spend 90 grand and buy a fking new 911
