Got a problem with a 944. Went to start it tonight, turned the key and got a buzzing noise. Battery is good. Think the noise is coming from the starter motor. Anyone any ideas?

Could be a knackered starter motor but first I would check the battery and starter motor connections and also the main battery earth where it connects to the body. Make sure they are not only tight but free from corrosion.

Main power lead also corrodes internally and causes a high resistance. Use a jump lead from battery to starter solenoid to rule out.

It may be the solenoid on the Starter motor. Mine went a few years ago with the car refusing to start. The symptoms initially looked like it was the immobiliser playing up so I had it replaced only to discover afterwards it was the solenoid which only cost a couple of quid. Hope this helps.

thanks all - starter motor was the problem. Took it off, cleaned the leads put it on, same problem. Took it off and put on a spare that I had, and problem solved. Better than watching master chef any night of the week !
