OK - I am making time this year to get out on track a bit more - my first outing at Oulton has whetted the appetite.

My usual destinations have been Donington, Cadwell and Bedford.

At Donington will it get by on quiet days or can I only do loud days?

Cadwell should be OK

Bedford - static is 99db - not sure I will pass that, although they let me on with my 6.2 GT3 as they said that 911s tended to fail static but be OK on drive by. However I believe that the 7.2 RS is over 100db even with the flaps shut wink

Any help appreciated for these or other circuit recommendations.

in my experience, has to be 'noisy day - 105 db' where donnington fine, snetterton difficult, goodwood difficult, brands fine, oulton fine, silverstone fine, bedford difficult.

If you search back, I've posted the dB ratings for the 7.2 RS - even 105 dB days can be a struggle (at least they were at Goodwood).

seeing 7gt3's fail noise tests is a regular and sad sight...

i would go down the route of some db killers, similar to what mike at sportsandclassic has on his 6gt3, they simply attach in a matter of minutes and are cheap to fabricate. you will be able to do any track you like then.. then when you've done, remove them and your car will still sounds fruity for the trip home.

Thanks I will do.

At Oulton I was 104db static with the valves open, I believe another RS was 102db with the valves shut. Out on track there were a couple of cars that were louder, but the RS seemed to be fruitiest rasp, especially Ken as he was getting it on!

My MKII 996 GT3 with full cargraphic system gets 102/103 with DB killers on. Around 108/109 with out ! I have done Donington Park last month and was ok for noise, think it was a 105DB day. Not sure of my drive by DB reading.

Am going to try Donington Park in July and leave off the DB killers and see how I get on with noise. It may be ok drive by, but will fail static.

Don't bother with Bedford as they are very strict.

Get yourself to Brands Hatch and Silverstone instead.

I passed Goodwood (105 db max) with my RS 4.0 the other day with no problems - measured 98db. Did not use the "sport"buttom however.

Thanks for all the input - as I am Oop North am looking for more local circuits - Brands is a little far!

Will stick to Cadwell and try Donington with DB Killers.

The 997 RS used to read 104dB without Sport on (they took off a few levels for rear engine)

997.2 RS read 106dB static iirc

I spoke with Reading and they had the stock readings and they made me question why Porsche are building louder and louder track cars when noise regulations are getting stricter in Europe and NA.

Donington, noisy days only

Doesn't the cap on the vacuum pipe work on the RS like it does on the .1 GT3 (non-RS)?

can't comment on the 997.2RS, i only have a 997.1RS, but mine and others are regulars at Bedford which is quite restrictive in terms of noise levels.

I took my 6.2 GT3 to Bedford with a standard exhaust.

However on static it was definitely a couple of db lower than the 7.2 RS.

I might call them and ask.

Bluddy hell - unsilenced days at Dono are pretty pricey these days!

I presume that it is because on noisy days there are less cars?

I did a 99dB day at Donington in 7.2 RS, didn't get static tested but on advice eased off on the main straight...

Towards the end of the afternoon though I thought I may as well see whether easing off been warranted knowing I could happily get on my way home if I tripped it... didn't have a problem - was gutted I'd gone so easy in the morning!
