After market wheels

And make you look like a drug dealer. And no doubt invalidate any warranty and/or insurance... Apart from that they're ace
Seriously though there should be a slight improvement on turn in, as unsprung rotational mass makes a bigger difference than you might think. That said the savings aren't normally huge in my limited experience - all depends on what you've got and what you're getting - I seem to recall that you have a 997 turbo? Did I read that the turbo rims are the lightest OEM wheels, or did I imagine that?

The Allegeritta are light wheels. Have a read of this.

What are you guys 50 years old?
There is an almost elitist, blanket anti-modification feeling in PH, especially on the Porsche forum - never understood why.ROK said:
Factory wheels are a complete functional and aesthetic compromise.
Very good point. It annoys me when people roll out the whole "you can't do better than the manufacturer" - All cars (including Porsches) are designed for the masses, and have to comply with a multitude of legislation for each of the countries that the car is to be sold in. There is always scope to fettle a car to suit your own particulr needs.ROK said:
Aftermarket wheels are not only of superior grade, they are much better looking.
I'd qualify the above with 'some'. Some are, some aren't.
In general, I think Porsche are very poor at wheel design, from an aesthetic point of view at least.

That's a very good point. What do the majority on here think is so special/necessary/cool/correct about leaving a car exactly as it came from the factory? Where do the beliefs come from that the manufacturer can do no wrong, that its standard specifications cannot be improved upon, that the car's performance is incapable of enhancement (unless it's a Turbo, in which case the manufacturer can't get it right
) and the look of its cars shouldn't, under any circumstances be changed to reflect the owner's budget/taste/personality/requirements? Furthermore, many people (myself included) cannot afford to buy new. This leaves us buying a used car that will always be a compromise as we weren't able to spec it exactly as we wanted (even if that were possible). Yet it's frowned upon if we modify our cars in any way! Even adding items that the manufacturer doesn't offer is looked down on. For example, Porsche has never offered a SUBTLE rear spoiler for 997 Carrera/Carrera S, yet the shape of the 997 works incredibly well with a fixed rear wing - it can even, dare I say it, look unfinished without. Yet the addition of such a part (e.g. a Techart Type III) will have the naysayers (and dealers) groaning about originality, warranties, resale values etc. etc.
The Americans have a much healthier attitude over modding cars. OK, the results mightn't be to British tastes sometimes, but that's irrelevant if the owner's happy. Then again, Porsche's attitude to their American customers is light-years away from the unforgiveable way Porsche UK treats its customers. Maybe the far more lenient attitudes to warranty in the USA helps give the americans the incentive to mod their cars? I'm sure we'd get the same attitude here if we 'did' rather than 'moaned'. Typical Brits though - complain like crazy at the end of the bar (and on forums like this one) but never follow things through. We've only ourselves to blame. I'm sure it's only the ever-present threat of being buried in litigation that causes Porsche to do so much better for the Americans in the first place!
As you can tell, I think mods, done properly, are a very good thing. What's your view?
