Hello all,

I'm missing the burble of PSE at certain speeds. Has anyone done the diode snip for a 997 with X51?

I could pull the plug in the engine bay but wish to retain quiet mode, hence snipping the diode in the relay and leaving the Sport button working. I'm in the dark about this diode snip operation revered on here and 911uk forums. It seems to be just for the 996 and I've taken the lower relay panel out but to no avail at finding the relevant relay.

Can anyone enlighten me if this is possible in a 997 with X51. If so where's the relay - is there a second tier of relays?

The relays are above the fuse panel bit on 996 and I think 997 too. Get your head down into pedal area and look up. Relay 2, black with white label.

Does this also work on a 987?

Mine's unplugged, but I'm thinking I might quite like a bit of quietness sometimes (motorway).

The PSE on a 997/987 does not use a relay like in the 996/986 PSE.
To control the PSE 100% manually, you can hardwire a switch or use a PSE remote control box.

Ah, a good question khushy - slightly obtuse but I like the simplicity!
There's a good answer too... because it's not got a PSE switch.

X51 kit includes sport button and PSE but no PSE button itself.

Sounds like I'll be leaving it alone however as a new button will be literally *several* dollars from OPC and there's 16 months warrantly left on it still.

Cheers for the info m0303.

Dur, because it'll go quiet at certain speed/revs even if switched loud.

Looks spot on jakesmith!

Will investigate... particularly as it removes the 45-75 kph variable as well.

I've got an X-51 and mine has been unplugged since I bought it. The plug is on the left on X-51, and I've trapped the plug between some of the pipes that go to the header tank.

You must do it, it makes driving the car so much more pleasurable!

Thanks for the plug location tip Custard Beast. I've run with it unplugged and completely agree it sounds GLORIOUS... however am keen to maintain the swichability.

Out of interest do you know what, if any, performance benefits/detriments arise as a result of having it unplugged permanently?

Cheers,
sb

Sweet!

So Khushy, how've you accomplished this no cut out between 45-75 kph yet still switchable? :-) Some clever trickery between Sport button and valve actuator?

I believe the only possible issue is that the valves in the exhaust could seize open if left open for a while.

I'm not bothered, as it used to annoy the hell out of me when driving. No going back for me!
