Evo front cover - '911 BEATEN'
Discussion
Quite a headline and a rather interesting front cover. Seems to be a sports car mega test from evora's to Maserati GTS.
Cant wait to get my copy.

Evo reports that the new 911 is beaten by the R8 and V8V, Autocar rates the 911 as best, beating the R8 and V8V.........
Yes but if needs must can you give your 3 kids a lift in the R8 & V8V, this is the great card the 911 holds & before anyone states M3, to me it is a done up 3 series.

I am interested, thanks for posting.Ah sorry!

By association this means that in the view of EVO, the 911 is no longer the worlds best sportscar.
It's not the first time EVO have said this and it will be interesting to read the test!

It's weird - it's like they want to somehow draw people in with a shock headline, so that THEY'LL BUY THE MAG!!
I've seen newspapers do this as well sometimes.
The scoundrels.
More that Evo has had 911's as their blue eyed boy for ages, winning Ecoty, littered in their top 100 drivers cars list ect.I've seen newspapers do this as well sometimes.

So to have the front cover basically saying the 991 isnt a class leader anymore is, for evo, rather important.
You have to face it, that in their efforts to move mainstream, Porsche is systematically diluting the 911 to the point where despite technological progress it really isn't the experience that it was.
The other issue is its appearance. I have just been looking at a red one in the car park. It is not a pretty car. The front looks as if it is melting. The little aerofoil detail on the tail which they have ripped off Aston Martin does not suit the car. They have done something to the roofline - maybe to increase rear headroom - and it makes it bulbous, like a Panamera Coupe rather than a 911, and effect enhanced by the fussy OTT script on the bootlid. The interior is full of crude straight lines and lacks style. The general size of it is like a Mondeo. It looks like an old man's car. However good it may be to drive, I just don't have any desire to own one. AM can beat this hands down.
Porsche need to realise that they are not stylists, and they need to get some talent in to do for them what Harm the Guy did back in the 90's. It is no secret that the 996/Boxster saved the company, and that was not just clever corporate manoeuvring. They were great looking, great driving cars.

Not got it with me but I thought the 991 came behind the R8 and the GTR??

I like the rear of the car, but its not as pretty as the 997,2, that car look so well crafted. The other issue is its appearance. I have just been looking at a red one in the car park. Its a real shame because I've always said either go for a GT or a sports car, dont accept too much compromise because youll feel like your getting an 8/10 car, seems like Porsche will be making more of a GT route.

No further questions, because, for the rest of the world, it means jack s

Most people Ive spoken to like evo mag and trust the advice and reviews.
t. Given they have always like the Porsche 911, its rather big for them to openly say how its the cats pyjamas' anymore, and not just a in the mag, but with a front cover like that.
Thought it says alot about the new 991 thats all.Of course mags will differ, look at Evo on the Alfa Romeo 8c Competzione, got through to the 2008 car ofm the year got a pretty good review as it said it was a bit of a rough gem, Sutcliffe seemed to hate the car, well apart from the looks and 'charm'.

That reminds me of another CAR cover: "Lemon" featuring a mk3 VR6.They tested the same car many years later, and were surprised that it was much better than they remembered. But it had since been fitted with proper suspension, the VR6's never were as standard.
