Hello,

So having been very busy and then away for a couple of weeks i hadn’t had a chance to use my mkII 996 c2 for around a month.

This has never happened before, but i guess not that surprising that the battery was dead.

RAC man opened the bonnet through the +ve terminal in the fuse box and the earth of the door mechanism without a fuss, and car started perfectly first time.

So my issue is the battery was so dead that the driver window did not 'drop down' when entering the car, and so when I first discovered the issue i had to manually lock the door by carefully pushing the door partly shut with the top of the window being the obstruction to the door fully closing, i hope that makes sense. The door or window were not forced at all.

My problem is now, after a 30-40 minute drive to charge up the battery the window still does not drop or self align itself, in fact, when I first started the car the window mechanism did work, i pushed the winder button and it went down, then went up, but the door was open and it still seems to sit 'high'. The window now does nothing and is stuck in the fully up position, once again stopping the door from closing fully.

The RAC man seemed to think that this wasn’t uncommon and that the car had entered some kind of basic charge mode when secondary electrics were shut down, im not too sure of this as have never heard of it, and also, the passenger window works fine, and as I say, even after a drive to charge the system the driver window is still stuck fully up.

Is this common? Is there a solution? Is my winder somehow now knackered?

Many thanks in advance for the advice,

Cheers

Look up your manual - you'll need to reset the windows top end position. This is explained in the manual (at least in 997s - I assume it will be the same for the 6). Nothing to worry about.

Ok, thank you, I will check my manual tonight. So the fact the drive side window switch and window now do nothing at all is probably nothing to worry about?

Thanks.

Hi Gibbon, sorry I must have skipped that bit - the window running fully down and up again was to recalibrate itself - but you had the door open. It might be, that it has now disabled itself (just a guess). Might be a good idea to disconnect the battery again and recalibrate again with the door shut. See what the manual says first. Hope this helps - I doubt that the window mechanism is knackered.

If I read this correctly, you haven't taken the battery off to charge it fully again? If so, you'll need to do that first because driving it around will not get it back to the charge you need. Once it's fully charged you can do the window re-calibrations suggested above.

I do actually have a battery charger, will driving around not fully charge it then? Am i better taking the battery out and sticking on charge for a while?

Thanks

Yes, I would definitely charge it up after it's gone flat. Remember to put the keys in the ignition and turned on (lights on dash) before you disconnect the battery, to stop the alarm from going off.

I am glad I read this thread. I couldn't work out how to disconnect the battery without the alarm deafening me, despite reading the manual.

Good luck with your window, OP.

Sorry if this is old hand but to reset windows, you put the windows all the way up, then press the up button and hold for a few seconds. This resets them in my car and the auto wind down etc works.
