Porsche Bluetooth - Tooki, Dension etc
Discussion
Hi All
Very excited - just bought my first 911 - a 2006 C4S which I should pick up early next week.
Just thinking about phone kits etc. I really need to be able to make and receive calls handsfree in the car. It has sat nav with the phone kit (no Bose) and looks ready to accept a SIM card but this seems like a faff (two numbers, call diverts etc). I have been looking at products from Tooki and Dension but the costs are relatively high for a relatively small amount of gain.
It seems slightly off the wall to suggest it but the costs of the Tooki are about 50% of a new double din head unit with better nav, bluetooth built in and better sound quality! How are people tackling this in cars without bluetooth built in?
It would also be good to get an iPod connection and DAB if upgrading although this is slightly tempered by the issue of having to remove face plates and worry about security.

Hi, not surprised you're excited - and congratulations.
You obviously understand the options. I have a Dension Gateway 500 and have been very pleased with it. It's not perfect, but only because it has to use the original head unit it will be slightly hampered, but it does the job rather well. I use all the features, except connecting an iPod, prefer to put all my music on a USB stick that just plugs in to the unit.
You're right, the Tooki IS expensive but apparently it's the one to get if phone integration is your priority.
Changing the head unit is quite a possibility and I've done it myself on a previous car, really depends on how much money you want to spend. To get DAB, you'd either have to change the unit or add one of the DAB kits available. Again, depends on how much money you want to spend and whether you prefer like me to integrate everything in one.

The previous owner is taking it for the 111 point check tomorrow and putting a years warranty on it for me. Will they really try to refuse a warranty claim just because I've upgraded the audio? Seems very harsh to me but I have no experience with an OPC. It would be going in to Wilmslow for any service / warranty work does anyone have any experience of their attitude to this kind of stuff?
I was going to live with it for a little while but I had pretty much convinced myself a nice stereo upgrade would be good to have! You can get a top flight Alpine / Kenwood head unit with nav, dvd, dab, ipod and bluetooth for only a couple of hundred more than Tooki. Then speakers would be the obvious thing to upgrade, another couple of hundred for focals and it would sound great. Certainly better than the standard unit with a bluetooth adaptor added.
Maybe I need to ask at OPC Wilmslow.

Can't speak for Wilmslow but I use Mid Sussex who generally appear to be more on the side of the owner rather than Porsche whenever i have dealings with them and they simply said any alterations to the vehicle voids the warranty, full stop.
Worth asking but I'm thinking Wilmslow will have a similar attitude.
I understand where they are coming from, but don't understand why they don't offer an official solution to what is basically a s
t ICE system.

I understand where they are coming from, but don't understand why they don't offer an official solution to what is basically a s
t ICE system.Wilmslow are fairly pragmatic and, in my experience, apply common sense where they can. There are instances where rather than removing the aftermarket bluetooth device completely to comply with OPC warranty conditions, they simply require the device to be inoperable (ie they simply pull the fuse on it - and give you the fuse back
)
)In my C2S I had the basic Parrot kit installed and the small control unit hidden in the ash tray - completely invisible when the ash tray kit was closed it also conveniently located to use. Porsche East London arranged for it to be fitted and there were never any quibbles over warranty claims.
