997 C4S X51 Powerkit
Discussion
I'm again considering a C4S (i oscillate between "wait for a 997.1 t" and "get a 997 C4S now")
I've seen a couple with the powerkit which i know very little about. Does it effect economy, reliability? Is it a "modification" as far as insurance is concerned if it's a factory fit? Anything else i should know?

X51 is not considered a modification by my insurance company even tho mine was actually retrofitted... I asked specifically as I was surprised (pleasantly).
There are a couple of posts on here claiming X51 engines are rougher at tickover but frankly I haven't noticed - the idle sounds lovely and at 5500 rpm some magic happens... right up to 7500. Peak power is actually at 7200 where your normal S hits the limiter.
It does make it go faster (as fast as a GT3 up to about 90 mph) and the fuel economy isn't brilliant. For my ownership I've averaged a little over 22 mpg. Can get it up to 26/27 on a motorway run if I try hard.
I would have thought that the economy should be better at lower rev ranges but I'm sure someone will come along in a bit and tell you the facts on that.
As to reliability, well, the RMS will break and the pistons will score... maybe ;-)
Buy it! X51 cars are amazing and quite rare.

If I could have found one in the right spec / condition - I would have happily paid a premium for one - but they are as rare as rocking horse poo (in my experience) ! The reviews of the day suggested that it made it faster and more urgent across the whole rev range, but questioned the value of the £8K premium when new ....
