Here we go again.....laugh

Yes, if you want to put something in to it and attend your local region, national events, use the member benefits, that sort of thing. It's a club, so you get far more out if you get involved and don't treat it as purely a book of discount vouchers.

Expect some comments from a few people here about beards, concours, where they go wrong etc. With c. 12000 members it can't be all bad, but some people always enjoy a cheap pop at it. Your local region will be happy for you to get in touch and try it out, and the forums are open to non-members (except the club-only ones), so give it a go before you part with any money?

Just to add, seeing as you're in London, this region has recently had a new team take over and is hugely active. Take a look at their page on the website and get to something like the Ace to meet up with them.

why do you have to pay to join?
if it wasnt for the porsche drivers/owners there would be no club, you buy the car/brand and then pay fees to be in a club, how strange!
been to a few meets, i paid to to get in so others could see my car/cars never again!

That's got to be the most bizarre post on PH this year? If there were no Porsche owners or drivers there'd be no Club so therefore it should be funded by angels and fairy-dust?

If you don't pay you don't join. Whether you don't want twelve well-produced magazines a year, an office with five full-time staff, a motorsport division, a team dedicated to securing member discounts, 30-plus teams devoted to specific model registers, 30-plus regions working every month to lay on events...

Jeez, buy a Focus if you are that passionate about cars that you think Clubs shouldn't exist! mad

Ahhh, I got caught out by a troll there, ddn't I? getmecoat

OP it's worth joining for the 10% discount on parts alone. Everything else is a bonus.

its a no from me and whenever I have said to my OPC (whilst being a PCGB member of course) that I am indeed a member - they have happily given my the 10% discount without asking for any proof PLUS I am sure that if you ask anyway - you can easily get 10% discount at an OPC - so its no longer a perk or a reason to join!!!

What's wrong with a flask? What's wrong with sandals on a hot day? It's not like we all go round in mullets is it?

Which you can get from TIPEC or indeed by just asking for 'best price'. Join for a better reason than that!

I agree, a bizarre post, and then a contradictory response confused. The Supercar Drivers Club charge annual membership too (£40), I can't see what you get for that as the website isn't working properly. I don't know of any clubs that you can join for free (except my local pub www.thebullsheadpub.co.uk who give free beer and commemorative mugs to all Porsche drivers who email a picture of their car outside, but it's not a formal club as such).

It's always a choice whether you join any club (and pay the price for doing so), it's a free country. thumbup

I really enjoyed reading this post. I have been a member of a few Porsche clubs (paid) and have wondered if it really is worth the money. I found these clubs consist of big egos, in crowds and moderators with no tact and no idea of the meaning 'personal opinion'
Hence I have joined a new Porsche club that is free to join with no self appointed committee members, and people who understand the true meaning of 'opinion'. There is a lot of technical help and no criticism of members who are not keeping their cars as standard. It is a 924 club but many members have other models. With more people joining they will be organizing meets, track days etc and will be going as a club to a lot of the Porsche shows. If anyone is interested this is the club's link www.porsche924.info.

You called Paul wink

Ravi, I encourage you to come to one of our London meets to meet some of us 'non-sandal' wearing members.

As KAL points out it is the Ace Cafe meet tonight, a very casual meet.

Ravi in case you haven't figured it out I am one of the 'new team' and I am assisted by my good lady and the local 'Firm' of true Porsche Enthusiasts.

Despite all the apparent shenanigans at board level (and I believe xftdr, you did get your money back?) it all happens, and happens well, at Regional and Register level -but it's only as good as what you are prepared to put into it.......

No. The club refused to refund me but agreed to donate to a charity of my choice - Help For Heroes. But that only came after I threatened, with two other members from this forum, to instigate proceedings against the club through Trading Standards over the sales and marketing of the RAC Anniversary Event.

After 15 years with the club and numerous events and activities not one board member bothered to contact me and offer an apology for the shoddy manner in which I had been treated. I keep hearing its as good as you are prepared to put in and its simply not true. I put massive amounts of time and energy into the club, arranged numerous trips and visits. And yet the Board let me down and simply could not be bothered to deal with my problems when push came to shove. I was an irritant that they though they could shove around.

I like the mag. Haven't been out on the club runs but enjoy the mag so I pay my subs.

Forget the politics, thats just government cloud fluff. Go to one of the meets (assuming thats your aim with the club) and see if the local crowd is your kind of people or not. If not, try a different club. smile
