Chassis Steam Cleaning
Discussion
Before I start - I know its anal but please indulge me!
There is so much crud stuck to the wax coating under my 996 that I thought it would be a good idea to remove all of the plastics underneath and steam clean the entire underside. (avoiding the engine, electrics and brakes of course)
Does anyone have experience of this and are there any recommendations for companies in and around Hertfordshire that might be able to help me with my obsession?
I have just purchased 2 gallons of Dinitrol and various spray attachments from Rustbuster but it does seem a shame to apply it on top of so much grime.
The car is a Mk1 GT3 and I think it only right to preserve it for future generations whilst still being able use it in all weathers.
If all goes to plan I will post some before, during and after shots on this forum.

Doesn't the car come with a properly treated underside? Both my Boxster and my Turbo have a very tough coating of some kind of plastic like paint that resists rocks and other damage quite well.

I'd be leery of the steam cleaning damaging that superb underbody protection.
I've driven both cars in some pretty nasty conditions and afterwards all that I found the underneath side needed is a good hosing down.
No need to even remove any of the panels because they do a good job of keeping the dirt off the body proper, unless you did what one owner did and that is drive his car through a flooded/muddy parking lot.
Sincerely,
Rockster.
Thanks for the comments so far.
The fact is that Porsche decided not coat every part of the GT3 underside with wax. On removal of the the panels I have discovered there is no wax visible at all.
The history shows that the car has had 2 scheduled under body inspections and it is obvious that visible sections of the floorpan and suspension castings have been coated with wax. I suspect that it was not properly cleaned before the wax was applied, hence I now have a mucky textured wax finish on some visible parts and bare paint under the belly panels. There is no rust yet but having seen the other thread and pictures I think it would be wise to rectify the problem rather than ignore it.
After all, I know it WILL rust if I do nothing!
So, if you know a decent steam cleaning company in Herts please let me know.
