What's exactly the difference? Place like pro-tyre have alignment machines are they any good?

My 996 feels very twitchy - don't know if this is part of the 911 'feel' but it feels like feels every small bump and feeds this back to the steering wheel. Where can I get this checked out in West London? Willing to go further afield if necessary.

Thanks

Wheels in Motion should be able to sort you out.

Alignment and geometery are essentially the same thing. You want somewher ewith a hunter machine and an understanding of setting up cars like a 911.

Your issue could be alignment related but worn bushes or knackered dampers can also have this effect. My MX5 is currently a real handful with one blwoin damper on the rear.

Porsche specialist Tognola in Datchet (near Windsor) has the equipment and a good reputation.

An hour or so drive from West London, but worth it:

Didn't realise Tongola did this. May give them a call. Will also look into the other options.

I guess first thing I need done is examination to see if anything is worn rather than the alignment then?

Tognola were also recommended to me by another independent in the areas who doesn't have this equipment. Hven't used them yet as I need to get new tyres first and get them bedded in, so I am told.

What you describe may just be 911 feel - you do get feedback overload in a 911 but once you realise it's just the car telling you what is happening in great detail, you learn to interpret the signals and this allows you to trust it and to push on. (Conversely, I feel a bit insulated from what is going on when I drive any of my other cars after driving my 996t)

If, on the other hand, the car is not doing what you expect it to do in any given scenario, it might be that the geo is out.

Worth having it checked anyway, for your peace of mind if nothing else.
