I'm really looking for a 968 but as good ones seem to be more expensive than some 996's I thought I might give one a try.

This looks to be a bit of a bargain so why's it not sold - am I missing something ?

sounds ok to me. calll the guy and have a good chat as he says hes only selling due to redundancy which may be true. check the history and if you go further then get an inspection done. mileage is good and has had lots of jobs done. oh and get a hpi report done as well.
its a shame we are so suspicious nowadays but there are still some genuine cars and people out there.
its got to be worth a call at least and you may bag a bargain.
i can certainly recommend the 996 as i have one.........mine needs a couple of jobs and some new rubber on the rears and i got mine for not too much more with only 48k on her, theyre good motors. only things i dont like on that one are the hideous rear sensors and the wheels but thats just me.
call the guy.......you know you want to really.

But why haven't they at this price level it's all 120k cars and Tiptronics so it looks cheap to me.

Hence I wanted to know if I'm missing something that it obvious to those who know 996s.

Be it a year / spec to avoid etc

Wow yours sounds really cheap - this seemed to stand out to me.

I really like the wheels but yes I hate the sensors - I guess I could remove them and respray the bumper.

That *looks* like a very good example (as far as anyone could possibly tell from just an advert).

I agree it is surprising it hasn't sold at that price. Looks very good VFM to me, and at that price, it's almost disposable (i.e. even if it turned out to be a complete dog, your exposure is limited to a few k).

I would say it definitely warrants further investigation.

Yes, might be this.

OP - do your homework and you might get yourself a bargain.

yes i got mine at a good price mainly because it was from a guy i work with and he prob buys 6 or 7 cars per year and takes a loss on them but he doesnt seem to mind.
wasnt lookin for one really but price was right so i had it ......and love it.
that one in ad does sound a really good buy so call up and talk to him and be quick or it will go.

done some diggin for you. have spoken to the seller under the guise as im calling on behalf of a friend.
sounds a very decent guy whos had car 2 yrs and before that 12 yrs with a tvr. hes bein made redundant and would rather sell car than have it sitting around not being used and he may work away.
he sounds like hes had all the jobs done as and when needed and hasnt cut corners because he said he wanted the car to be spot on. he quoted all prices off the top of his head and sounded very knowledgeable about it and all it needs now is routine servicing.
from my 10 min conversation with him i would deffo be gettin up there pronto.
told him to maybe expect a call from my (friend) good luck and hoped that helped in your dilemma. nev

I've never been a fan of the 996 but the mark 1 shape is now starting to look fresh again: mark of a good design. Put the indicators back to amber and you have a very nice looking car. I like the wheels as they are "correct" - nothing worse than 993 wheels on a 964 or 997 wheels on a '6.

Plus with dark grey leather, PSE and an LSD it is a very nicely spec'd car. For £10k, what are you waiting for?

Nice one with the uprated suspension.
Funnily no other one around that price is marked as sold.

I think people presume every 10+ year old 996 is going to grenade itself whilst simultaneously imploding into a melted blob of cylinder liners and IMS bearings.

Fill yer boots!

Thanks but I'd already called him.

I'm going to see a local one tomorrow morning to see if I actually like them if so then I'll go and take a look (its a long way from me)

From what I can see so far that'd be right 1 time in 10.

But from the reports I've seen they will all fail sooner or later.

Must admit, I do.
I'd rather pay a bit more for this I think. Especially if you could chip him down to £12K.

I'm strangely very drawn to this which is the polar opposite. Horrible interior and GT3 badge and no rebuild yet. I just keep clicking back to it though. Yes I'm strange. silly

Christ marky, that is rank! I mean, I don't actually mind the red interior, & I do like pastel yellow but together?!

Gt3 kit ruins the clean early 996 lines as well....

hehe

You see, I could only have an early 996 with the kit. I love the yellow but hate the red, but would worry about the engine given the miles.

OT - Did you get my email on Thursday night? Didn't pass yours on way back yesterday, obviously. smile

I saw that but the bit about "Re round cylinders as far as possible" and not replacing valve seals falls some way short of "No expense spared" rebuild IMO.

I don't like the wheels, No LSD, No suspension kit.

There is a nice black 3.6 locally with a dealer for £14500 but from what I can see a 3.6 is as likely to fail as a 3.4 and I don't believe I'll feel 20 odd bhp.
