And I would have this over any gt2 which, for an equivalent quality model, would be £10-15k more...

By collectible, I mean a special series 911 (rs, gt2, gt3, turbo s) which is kept in timewrap condition. This one is a bit special. If I did not already have a turbo s, I would have gone for this.

a 959 IS a collectors car!

Great colour, but a special car ? that I'm not so sure about.
"Special" was the 964/5 Turbo S from the early nineties, as was (to a much lesser degree) the 993 version. But an X50 996 turbo with a pair of DFS comfy chairs, PCCBs and an S badge on the back, not really.
I'm sure it would make a great drive (I know you're a big fan of these cars with PCCBs)as ever it's horses for courses, but a Turbo S is never going to be as involving to drive as a GT2. Then we get onto the thorny subject of depreciation . . . . I think my money would be sunk into a GT2.
I'd agree entirely with Slippydiff - but then i'm a little bit biased!
Anyway - There are loads of turbo 's' cars if you believe the rear ends ;-)
Nice car though, has to be said and attractive mileage. I guess if it gets used alot though the value will surely reduce quicker than any GT car.

Indeed, I am a big pccb fan. Even more so when couple to x73 suspension (which this one does not have). It makes the 996 turbo behave surpringly like a gt2 which I have driven extensively. A vanilla 996 turbo with steel discs and stock suspension is a different car altogether.
I always believe that the cars that will be interesting in the future are NOT the ones that everybody is looking at, at the present time (gt2/gt3's are the obvious ones).
With 600 turbo 's' coupe produced worldwide of which half are tips, a good manual coupe has to carry some kudos. It is the last turbo 's' with a mezger engine (i know, I know, there are lots of 'last ones' in the 911 saga)...
It is far more useable in real life than a gt2 or a gt3 (i had a 996 gt3 mk2).
Can't see them reaching 993 turbo 's' values obviously but I feel like they are a good alternative to anyone looking for a 996 gt2 and would prefer something more 'realistic' in the real world. As in more useable.

OK, I'll come clean it was me that bought it
So after nearly 6 months of searching I finally nabbed myself the cleanest 996 I have ever seen. It came down to a choice of GT2 or 996 Turbo S in the end... to be honest I could have gone either way and I know that in the long-run the GT2 from a value perspective was probably the wiser bet, but to be honest I'm sick of reading about depreciation on here so I won't mention that word again!
Once I saw the car I realised this was for me, I'm a total detailing and clean freak so an original panel, no marks, 1 owner 9k mile car was exactly what I was looking for, just didn't expect to find it on my doorstep! You really have to see the car to believe the condition. There are very, very clean cars and then there are new cars... this may as well be new, doesn't even look like it has been sat in... yes, I know the chairs are not perfect (that's another favourite subject on here isn't it
), but I've realised in my search that a great deal of cars have history when you dig deeper and there will most likely be some compromise to make to get into a used car like this; overall I'm happy with the compromise.
Should be picking the car up next week after a condenser is replaced which the inspection flagged up, other than that not a lot came up.
Just wanted to thank a number of folk on here who have been really helpful in different ways, i.e. letting me view their cars, giving advice, etc.
So now I don't have to search the classifieds 5 times a day what I am going to do with all that time?

As you say, looks like new. Enjoy it in good health.
When I bought a used car after a long research the last time, I did not check the classifieds out for 2 years. I recommend you the same. You can always use the time for researching mods.
Wouldn't mod that car at all if I was you. Beautiful original car. Turbo S very rare in Coupe form. When I was looking couldn't find an S in Coupe form at all. Settled for standard Turbo Coupe in the end. When I bought a used car after a long research the last time, I did not check the classifieds out for 2 years. I recommend you the same. I think the turbo S badge lost a bit of credibility after the 964 3.3 turbo S, 964 3.6 turbo S a. Although lovely I don't regard the 993 turbo as special as the two 964s I've mentioned. The 996 and 997 turbo S are even less special than the 993 turbo S IMO but again I think they're stunning.
The 964s were rwd and the 3.3 was a lightweight. Bit more like a GT2.
There's just something about every Porsche after 993 that feels like a Toyota rather than that hewn from granite feel. I don't know what it is but the 996 and 997 even more so just look like cheap plastic cars. Don't get me wrong I love the way these cheap plastic looking cars drive but I just can't love them in the same way as I do say a 3.2 Carrera. I'm becoming a beardo...

Amazing that it sold so quickly given than it was listed in the wrong section of the classifieds (don't know why, but this really bugs me - especially when traders do it - they really should know better). Is that weher you spotted it OP? Were you looking for a 997?
Anyway, well done on the purchase. Are you not going to be a bit reticent about driving it in fear of defiling such an original clean example?

I did spot it in the 997 section, had a bit of a double take and then thought... that looks interesting. TBH I hesitated for a couple days, had a look at a GT2, then popped in briefly to view the car with my 5 year old in tow. I had a good look round the car, but was obviously a little distracted by the little one so left to have a think. It was when I woke up not able to sleep the following morning at 4:00 that I realised I needed to move quickly and buy it... except I had a flight to catch from Manchester Airport later that morning. To cut a long story short I placed the deposit over the phone just before I flew and got the inspection done whilst I was away, now just waiting to take delivery.Anyway, well done on the purchase. The mileage was one of the reasons I hesitated; it's the reason the car is so clean, but I wanted to use it and not just look at it. Given that it's a 3rd car I probably will struggle to do more than 2-3k a year in it anyway and it will still be one of the lowest mileage examples out there if I sell it on in the future. I actually don't think I have paid that much of a premium for the mileage adjust so I was happy with the decision.
