Looking in the classifieds and on the Porsche website I can only find a handful of cars, yet there are far more GT3 RSs to choose from. I'm looking to change from my current RS to a GT3 as the RS is a bit of a waste for just road use.

Did the RS sell in higher numbers? Why are most of the GT3s red?

David.

Didn't you know, "road use - comfort spec" cars are unsellable, so most of us don't waste our time advertising them ;-)

RS did not sell in greater numbers, but on the 997.1 many consider the difference between the RS and standard cars not enough to justify the price premium and given that it is the season for buying track toys I suspect that the market is opting for the cheaper car as a consequence. The price of the 997.1RS makes a compelling case to start ogling a much newer 3.8 gen 2 non-RS for little more (which is the way I went myself). I also don't think that the orange cars in particular seem to be as popular in the used market as they were with the people who bought them new, but I am sure that we have traders on here that may have a differing opinion.

Most 997 GT3s are (by some margin in my experience of seeing them on track) one of the 4 colours for which Porsche doesn't charge extra. I am not convinced that there are actually more red out there than other colours though. Most 997.1s that I have seen over the years have been white (which IIRC it was the brochure colour) followed by black. If it follows the brochure pattern there ought to be a higher than expected number of 997.2s though.....

I'm assuming u are still looking for a clubsport version given u used to RS's. The impression I get of 996 gt3's is that the 997 gt3 is far more everyday user friendly. Gotta say I love my gen 1 gt3. I always wanted a White one btw

Sorry, I have been a complete plank and put 997.1 when it should have been 997.2!

That also explains my mention of so many red cars.

As disco says, mkii 3.8 is an improved better car over the RS and no less focused or capable for not having the RS letters after it.... but then conversely the mki isnt much different from the RS so a relative bargain by comparison.

You want to change from 997.2 RS to 997.2 GT3???

Not sure you'll find the GT3 more comfortable than the RS...unless you go for a "comfort" version, but that's just the seats though, as i think on UK roads both suspensions will be super harsh. Or maybe you want some cash back...but really i would stick with the RS,more special.

There are only really 3 potential reasons to go from a 7.2RS to a 7.2GT3 - the RS is appreciably wider which can be a day to day annoyance, the wing and accents/decals are very 'look at me' shouty on the open road and of course - it liberates about £30k of price difference back to your bank balance...
