Hi guys,

If i fit this to my 996 GT3 will it stop me getting on UK track days? I think my standard cats are toast so I am trying to work out what my various options are. I'd love a loud exhaust but I don't want to get turned away from places like Bedford. I've seen my car come up at such a wide range of DCBs on standard pipes, it measured lower than 101 at beford and then only just past the 105 test at snet.

Does anyone have one fitted?

Cheers

Dave

Hi,

You will need some noise reducing tips, mine were called DB killers from car cargraphic. My Gt3 got 103 at Oulton on a static test and it has a full cargraphic system on it. It was 109 before the tips were installed. They look stupid but its only a 10 minute job to swop over.

Thanks Mike. I think I have seen pics of these. Are they safe and stay on while on track, can they be fitted easily when the engine is hot?

Hi, I have not done a trackday with mine yet. The way mine secure on is by removing my tailpipes and replacing with these. They will stay on.
As for swopping over when hot it will be a pain. Probably need 20 minutes for exhaust system to cool down enough on mine to replace them and will be fiddly 6" from the floor so I am going to do mine the day before the trackday.

Ask europipe if they have a soloution ?

Hi,

Good choice on Europipe mate, without doubt the finest quality, but not cheap.. I have read they offer choices on the loudness, track friendly etc. Have a word with them...?

If it does turn out to be loud however, just get it down to Mikes place, he'll quieten it down with his magic string!

Dave if you want to go down the route of putting a muffler/tips on wouldnt a simpler/cheaper fix just be a 100/200 cell cat and get some tips from janspeed?

How much are is the Europipe exhaust?
Mike do you have a picture of these db killers?

The only other point I would politely note/query is the strength/permancy of these on track. I've got a set of mufflers (from merlin motorsport) on my fez and although they do work (gets it down from 131db peak!) they have come off once which was not good.

I (well my mechanics) ended up having to drill right thru the exhausts and I’ve now got a bolt that goes thru both the exhaust and tips. But even then I wouldn’t be 100% certain they’d stay on.
I drive the fez reasonably sedately on track but the reason I got the GT3 is so I could push it to its limits, ie going over apex rumble strips etc. Exhaust tips would have to be pretty secure to sustain this continued punishment. I’d hate for one to come off and someone behind me hit it at 100+mph.
Just my 2p and happy to be corrected.

Cheers,
BJ
