Hello

Has anyone had any experience changing from a Porsche 911 to the Aston Martin V12 Vantage at all? Pro's / Con's and thoughts welcome!

Thank you

A friend of mine went from 997GT3 to V12V. His user name on here is makov12v (or Mako V12V). He's a Phil also, and I'm sure he'd be happy to give an opinion. Try a PM.

I have a V12 DBS but am looking for an early 911 (930) turbo, hence why I'm looking around the Porsche forum.. I have never owned a 911 before so can't really help you with a comparison. My only suggestion would be to get yourself along to an Aston dealer - they will welcome you with open arms at the moment.

Financial suicide awaits perhaps?

Lovely car thought, I recall JC getting all misty eyed on Top Gear a while back over one.

V12V vs 911 is GT vs sports car.

The V11V has a lovely interior, looks stunning, makes a great noise, but it's not as involving as a 911 and slower than any 911 with less than 400bhp.

And I thought the v12 vantage makes th e997 turbo look crap.

In response to the op.....I had multiple Porsches and although don't own a v12 v have driven 4-5 of them.

Depends on which 997 you want to compare it to,the Aston is expensive to run,but it looks astonishing, the engine is astonishing,it handles well, makes you feel like a million pounds when you drive, and you'll find you get everywhere quicker as other drivers let you out at junctions far more quickly than when in a Porsche.

The only 997 I would consider against the v12v would be a gt3,which is a sharper driving tool .

I owned a V8 a couple of years ago and went for a test drive in the V12 before opting for a GTS. Everyone knows how pretty the Aston is, makes a great noise and has bags of charisma, so if you're looking for a nice car to own and be seen in I doubt that there's much to challenge it. On the other hand, if you're looking for a well built sports car that will be an involving and satisfying drive, don't buy the Aston, IMHO.

I was planning on chopping my 997 GT3 in for a V12V. Massively disappointed. The car is just to heavy and has compromised driving position. I did make me realize how good the GT3 actually is. Never looked back since!

I actually prefer the latest AMV8s to the AMV12s (bit more character), but IMO neither are as fully resolved as a really good 911

Astons are beautiful cars. The V12V sounds glorious, and in the right colour looks like it is worth every penny of whatever they are asking for it. In this comparison, it is Heart, Aston - Head, 911.

I presume you're talking about the V8.

seriously ? The aston is a very involving drive, the normal v8s are good cars ,but a long way from a 911 ,but the v12 is a truly involving and wonderful machine.

I very nearly bought a V12, in fact I paid a deposit pending a decent test drive.

It was crap as far as I'm concerned. Terrible sight lines, gear stick too far back, pedals really offset and un-involving steering. What really disappointed me the most was the engine. Nothing special whatsoever. Also, the build quality, just reminded me of a TVR. The car I was looking at was about 18 months old but there was a list of corroded parts which had to be replaced. At that time I was offered a pre-reg car for £105k if I remember correctly.

Try posting this on the Aston site. Nearly all of the V12 boys had a proper Porsche before changing to a V12 and all of them seem to love the Aston. Ive always had Porsches but for the last few months have been keeping my eye on these. Great cars and becoming great value!

There are many who have gone from a Turbo to the V12. Niether are crap. The Porsche is a lot faster though. The V12V much more special imo.

yes Both are nice cars, horses for courses etc.

And do you believe the Porsche is a lot faster than the V12? I doubt it. smile

Martian O of the two at this momment i would love the V12,But against a Gen 2 Turbo the Aston would have no chance. Its at least 1 sec quicker just to sixty and about 2 and a bit to the ton.
But hey its fast enough.
