997 tiptronic - will i regret it??
Discussion
Hi.
I am picking up a 2007 c2s tiptronic (no sports chrono) next week. I knew I wanted an auto as fed up with manual driving in london traffic in my current 350z so it had to be tip (PDK too £££). Only now am i starting to see lots of negative comments about it :0 - is there anyone out their who loves their tiptronic??!
Also it's atlas grey but i'll leave that for another debate...
Jon.

Plenty of people here with Nomex underpants who'll tell you that it's rubbish.
It's not.
I live in London, and ran a Tip for 60,000 miles and five years. It was wonderful.
One journey in fifty, I'd wish I had a clutch and a manual box. But not enough to make me think that I chose wrongly.

Quite a lot of interesting info on tip on this thread - http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=70891
Might interest you if you are going the tip route which in my biased opinion would be best for London.

Even on the open roads it's still mighty fast . Yes the tip box is slower to change but if you just anticipate where you would normally change in a manual and tip the button a fraction before that and you'll be just fine.
I remember a road test where two Boxsters were driven across the moors of Yorkshire, one was tip the other manual....outcome was that the tip covered the ground faster.
buy it ... drive it ... enjoy it ......

I live in London and find tiptronic to be excellent. If you want to over-ride it, stick it in manual. I also find it perfectly acceptable on track days, since I can concentrate on line and braking points rather than worrying about a level six over-rev. Driving gods on here will no doubt disagree, but each to their own is my view. Oh, and if anybody starts rambling on about 0-60 times, challenge them to the best of, say, five runs in a row....the abuse to which you have to subject a manual car to get the factory time is considerable. On the tip' - floor and forget.
i bought a manual a few years back and spend most of my time in traffic jams. i really wish i'd bought an auto.
i thinks sports chrono changes the shift pattern for the better. you can get this retro-fitted (without the wart) for about £400. I'd recommend looking into that.
actually can someone else just confirm the above please? i'm wondering if i'm thinking about PDK and not tip.

I have tiptronic and in London and cruising between London and Bristol the car is amazing. I think that a lot of bashing tiptronic is the gearbox equivalent to people saying the engine is in the wrong place. Perhaps it is, but the car is still more rewarding to drive than 98% of cars on the road.
