Re: Remap/tuning for 2005 996 Turbo S - anyone had this done?

I'm looking to get this done for mine and just wondering if I can draw upon anyone elses experience. Seems to be a lot of information available for remapping 996 Turbo's - but not so much out there that's specific for Turbo S's.

Would be keen to know where it was done, what was done, the resulting HP/Torque, the cost, and any other useful information (such as problems that have been encountered).

I'm really looking to only get a remap done and not replace any engine/exhaust/etc components.

..it's an X50 engine, plenty of exp out there for mapping, try Fearnsport, they have some proven tunes available..

had my X50 sensibly tuned at Fearnsport (plus a Miltek put on for some noise)

I dont know exact BHP figures ( I would guess 520-530 with the exhaust?), not that botherered with the numbers, more bothered with how it now drives and feels. It is now a total riot and utterly addictive !

Do it !

Zillions of threads on this if you do a search.

Speaking from experience, you won't go wrong using either Fearnsport or 9excellence. Simple remap is entirely straightforward if thats all you want.

As above you have loads of options from simple flash to built motor with fancy hybrids etc. Plenty of good advice on here, really helped me out alot while mine was going through it's evolutioary process. Not an 'S' mind but I started with the usual exhaust etc and map from FVD and progressed from there. Most recently had some bits & bobs through 9E who's customer service and help was excellent.

Very happy with car at mo and keep telling myself it's quick enough, but never say never eh Ken!

l agree with all the comments above,

makes the 996 turbo the car it should have always been.

You will love your car even more. Go for it and you will have no regrets.

Also speak to Ken at NineExcellence. They've got a number of 996 turbo upgrade offerings. I believe his own car is running some ridiculously high power numbers. He might be worth a chat about 996 turbo s options even if your needs are different.

Thanks for the responses - any idea how much these places charge for such a remap?

Nick, had 996 turbo in the past, remapped by fearnsport. Was thoroughly happy with the results.

Bought as part of a group map in here for 650 pounds.

I now have 996 turbo s like you and may go down this route if i ever decide *not* to renew the warranty.

Don't some firms advertise that the remap is not traceable as having been done? Probably a sales pitch but would be good to know.

Simples: if your turbo s boosts to 1.2 bars, it has been remapped.

If porsche wants to find it, they will. In case of engine failure an such.

For simple routine services / small warranty claims, you may be fine.
