Some questions on the PSE

Is it possible to retrofit ?
Is it switchable i.e. i have a standard exhaust but still got warned at Bedford for noise, so would like to have a loud/quiet option?
Any idea how much it would cost ?

As far as I know, yes to all your questions.
Mine was a retro fit on my Spyder by m OPC.

Be prepared for at least £2k though.

Give your OPC a ring?

At least £2,000? For an exhaust?

Mental.

If you don't care about warranty, get a carnewal GT slapped on there for £400. Sounds a lot like an always on PSE.

The 'normal' mode of a PSE is no quieter than a standard system so you may still have issues at Bedford.

Couldn't agree more. Best £400 I've ever spent.

Yeah they are about 2k to retrofit. I had mine fitted at build and love the fact that it is switchable as the GF hates loud exhausts and it maintains the warranty

I managed to pick up a PSE for my Cayman on eBay. Easy swap and I wired in my own button so I can have it on and off when I like. It does seem a little quieter than the stock item when in normal model but cant say for sure as I did not measure the noise level. Bedford is very tight on noise as they have had lots of complaints.

I find that very strange. Their published limit is 101dBA static, 87.5 drive-by. I'm guessing you must have triggered their angst on a drive-by because the standard exhaust will be *way* quieter than 101. In fact, last time my 2004 Boxster S was measured (at Snetterton) it was under 90dBA.

Any third-party exhaust is going to be louder than standard and apart from PSE, I don't know of any that are switchable.

Just a thought is the Carnewal exhaust quieter than the stock system as on of the OP's problem is too much noise.

Good point. Errm, very much not.

Don't go to bedford would be a solution to that wink

I'm sorry, I think you must have added an extra zero.

£4,400! That's outrageous!

There is no way a standard Cayman or Bosxter is going to fail at Bedford.

Couldn't agree more. That is one reason why I bought a 996 with it already fitted!

if a std cayman/boxster has done quite a few miles, particularly with the engine being exercised, then it will be some amount louder than when new.

It may be that just repacking the cats in the exhaust is sufficient to make it quiet enough
