With reference to the minefield of issues that seems to dog these cars (by all accounts!), what about this IMS protection thing I've found (care of google, not any other association)

http://www.lnengineering.com/ims.html

Seems that for £9 - £10k, you can get a great car that just needs a bit of donkey work (after a preliminary check) to ensure that the car doesn't end up as rubbish.

Thoughts?

Brace yourself for responses.....though if you use the search function you will find all you need. Also read someone like Hartechs website which has some very useful info though look out for coffin arms, brakes, rocker cover oil leaks, corroding rads etc. plus all the usual things. They are great cars though people forget just because you can buy them for £10k doesn't mean you can run them for the same annual service cost as a Mondeo. Also get an issue of Total 911 or similar with a relevant buyers guide in it read

Thanks for the responses - yeh, I'm not after buying guides, as (as you suggested, I've used the search!) I'm more intrigued about the prevention possibilities out there.
More than fully aware than a £80K sports car for £10K is still going to need more running costs than a £10k car..... seems pretty obvious to me biggrin

Looked at the autofarm stuff, it just seems that there is little in the adverts to state that remedial or preventative work has been carried out.... which is strange considering the problems that affect these cars.

Only seen 2 in all the adverts up to about £14k...granted, I've only been looking at manual and non-cabrio cars.
