Been thinking about getting my Boxster resprayed as it's got the usual paint chips and a couple of scuffs here and there. Has anyone got an idea how much it would cost for a good re-spray - no back street botch job?

What colour is it? Sometimes its very difficult to get a factory colour match, for example with GT Silver, even when done through an OPC (third party) bodyshop - I know from experience. Even GB use a third party, can't remember their name now.

Shop around for quoets and be careful with the ppl who say they can do it for much cheaper as they may not be taking the bits off and sticking them in the oven to bake. Portiacraft in North London were one of a very few Indys who said the right things when describing what they would do.

Also be careful not to approach an OPC's bodyshop directly - they can mess you about with price and finish quality, whereas going through OPC fixes the quote and you have comeback through GB if you are not happy with the finish, though the OPCs used sales approval person could check the finish for you.

Just do not automatically expect the finish to be as good as your original paint. smile

About £3.5K + VAT for the labour just for the respray with everything off but not bare metal and that would be a well decent job.

But I guess it depends on where you go.

In my experience, for a Boxster, I'd say about £6-8k for a bare metal respray at a Porsche Approved Bodyshop.

At that kind of money for a respray and the fact that the car is old enough to have collected enough dings and scuffs to warrant it, I'm thinking it has got to be a large % of the car's value.
What about a decent wrap ?

I had a 944 that had been repainted at Porsche Reading (or whoever they use) and it was a whopping 11K!!!

Have you considered a serious detailler who could do a full correction and may give you a good result for maybe £500/£600?

Ditto the last. Speak to Paul Dalton at Miracle Detail. He did my Boxster with just a 2 stage paint correction and it looked simply phenomenal. A bonnet/front repaint plus paint correction and detailing may be a proportionate solution for you.

I wouldn't respray, I'd wrap it, fraction of the cost.

PM me for details, I know a chap who's superb, you'll see my old Lotus Elise is on here, that was red, wrapped matte black.

This kinda thing: http://www.raccoon.co.uk/colour-change.aspx
