Having driven about 250mls around Cornwall in my C2 Coupe this weekend, I have been reminded just how great these cars actually are.
Happy blasting down perfect winding roads, sounding great even without PSE, almost as happy cruising along the A30 DC at 70mph. A boot big enough for a weekends luggage for two & fuel economy (just about) acceptable considering the mixed (& spirited!) driving.
Best of all, no complaints from the OH, even when the roads got twistier! It will need a bloody good wash now to get rid of all that salt, heck I may even polish it!
The only downer is that I didn't get any photos of the car against those stunning Cornish backdrops, just have to go back won't we!

I'm in tears after reading this.
Well done that man. Sure your engine doesn't need an inspection after this trip? After all you have traveled at least 50 miles in it ....... And don't forget the depreciation.
I'll never forget tiff nedells top gear test on the 996 back in 97 and how much better by far it was over the 993.
Easily forgotton though. (this from a lover of air cooled 911s as I am)
Sounds mad maybe now, but one day I think the 996 will have its day. Bargain car at the mo IMO.

I had a facelift 996 and spent many a road trip enjoying the fact it was practical and was as happy munching the motorway miles as it was on the B roads and twisties.
However, I've now got a Boxster S and I must admit I love this more; it's sharper and quicker to respond to whatever you ask it to do. The only down side is the dogs dont fit in the Boxster!

I looked at & nearly purchased 993's a couple of times before buying my 996. Looking at the drop in prices since I bought I do wonder whether my 1st choice of a 3.2 Carrera Coupe may have been a better bet!Well done that man. So depreciation is the reason for it being a poor choice?
My wife spent 17.5k on a new Alfa and after 4 years was offered less than 4k part ex. Didnt mean she didnt love every minute of her car, she did. So much so she bought another. Sometimes money should not be an issue if you are enjoying driving.
Saying that, I feel for any 997 owner who comes px time at the moment.

I've owned my 996 C4S for just over 2 months now, in which time i've racked up about 2000 miles. In that time it hasn't leaked oil, blew up or caused any major issues, imagine that? A sensor needed fixing, but it was hardly a nightmare. It's a car that admittedly took me a little while to gel with, but I absolutely love it now, and enjoy every time I get in it without fail. They were built to be driven, and they're so much fun to do so with, why would you want to just listen to horror stories and be scared to take it out the garage? We should all just enjoy having such nice toys to play with, the negative muppets and doom mongers can go peddle their stories elsewhere.

:-)
I love driving mine. I bought it a year ago, waited around for the right spec and couldnt be happier with it so far. c2 facelift, seal grey, manual, hardbacked sports seats, 18 inch wheels, factory sports suspension, sports exhaust, Bose and changer, love it! For my tastes theres some badly spec'd cars out there, but once i'd found the right once for me i was sold.
I'm glad I never read the forums much prior to buying the first C4S I went to see - Oh what a mistake I'd made accroding to the doom mongers.
10k in one year, replaced a battery and rear tyres. Faultless. Spent 50k+ on an Aston, spent 2 of the 12 months in the dealership. Back in 996TT.
Undervalued cars, people have a major issue with the front ends...

First time posting!
I read a lot of stuff about the idea of running a bargain Porsche 911, most of it was depressing!
Thankfully, I ignored it all and in September bought a 996 C4 facelift - so far, 1,500 miles covered with a mix of blatting and commuting and I too can confirm that nothing has fallen off and I absolutely love it.
Would recommend anybody to ignore the doom mongers and just do it. Would also recommend the boys at Strasse for easing me in gently!
