Does this actually work? Why does it flow so much more air than the standard pipe?

MM.

No.

It just makes a nicer noise as your blocking of the resonator.

You can get the same effect with your stock intake pipe by just blocking of the resonator with say the lid of NVIVIA shaving cream.

The only way to get more BHP from induction mods is a BMC panel filter but by itself you'll get maybe 1-2BHP, but if you do other mods to get more air in and more out then they all add up and help each other. smile

Thanks for that - but it makes me wonder what the (Hemholtz) Resonator does in the airbox? Makes it quieter / noisier? Increases the airflow? scratchchin

It effects/changes the sound. smile

Block it off for a more pleasing sportier sound.

Lots of info on the 911uk site, I suggest you go there and search. First thing i did to my old 997S was buy a DesignTek CAI kit, comes with all the parts you need. Removing/blocking the resonator will make the car sound a nicer and louder. The helmholtz exists to cut engine noise at certain ranges in the rpm, to satisfy German noises regulations.

Thanks - just ordered the same kit to go with a BMC Air Filter! smile

Are you going to post some before and after sound clips?

Probably not in all honesty as I think the difference will be under full load and higher revs .... Therefore more difficult to capture than (yet another) video of the car revving at idle! smile

Hi there

If your not under warranty, then completely remove the resonator with a dremel to get some additional airflow. smile

Just use a dremel, takes about 30-60 minutes to remove it neatly and another 60 minutes or so filing it all down and ENSURING there is no loose bits of plastics left.

It will probably make no difference on a stock car, but on a car with a remap, manifolds, de-cats then it may assist the breathing a bit giving better results.

The best intake modification out there is the GT3 throttle body, but its not possible YET on Carreras but maybe soon as I know IPD are working on a Plenum solution to use GT3 throttle bodies on the Carrera. smile

I have a mate who is rather good at these things, so I'll take the car round to him. Remap / Sports Cats and Manifolds are all potentials, but I want to do the easy (and cheaper) stuff first.

I've heard that too and I'm waiting very patiently for them to be released as I'd already decided I wanted an IPD Pleneum! smile

Not sure if a Plenum by itself does much if anything, though 996ttalot on here is doing a test on that soon. However it is proven the GT3 throttlebody offers some serious BHP gains for the Cayman/Boxster Gen 1 guys and even a Porsche tech told me themselves that a GT3 throttlebody on a Carrera S would give some nice gains.

The plenum is a tad expensive, but it will be the only way to get a GT3 TB to fit and at least the TB is sub £200 direct from OPC. smile

Just wanted to say thanks to Gibbo205 for the advice / part numbers as today I went to collect my X51 Manifolds, Gaskets and the X51 Centre Radiator Kit! BTW - for circa £80 has to be the best value box of Porsche Parts ever! You get: the radiator, hoses, aluminium mounting bars, clips, bolts, a new spoiler surround, an intake duct and a exit duct! eek

Truly stunned and if everyone's fears of of an overly hot engine causing bore scoring / D chunk issues is to be taken seriously - everyone with a 997 "S" should go and buy one straight away! smokin

I might be taking the bait but;

1 - This mod will not increase coolant to the block or cure hot spotting that leads to scoring.
2 - D chunking is not heat related. Its caused by the open deck design.

From what I've read - it'll take heat away faster> I should have said that I'm also going to get a Hartech low temp thermostat - I hope to have some additional peace of mind!
