Boxster/Cayman winter tyre & wheel info here
Discussion
People post about them all the time during Winter so, here they are. As supplied and fitted by OPC East London.
I am very pleased with the way that they look in comparison to the Carrera II/PS2 combination.
The levels of grip at night and early morning (sub 9C) are in a different league to the PS2's. The ride is less noisy and the ride has been improved in some ways although there is, of course, more "bobble" due to the larger sidewalls.
What you get for the money:
4 x Michelin Alpin PA2 N2 tyres
4 x 18inch Cayman alloys
Winter storage of summers, summer storage of winters
Fitting.
Tyre Sizes:
Only 18 inch Winter tyres are available for the Boxster and Cayman.
Fronts: 235/40/r18 91V
Rears: 255/40/r18.
Cost: £1999inc VAT and storage.

Winter tyres only really start making a small difference at under 5/6 deg, and then again the summer tyre loss of grip/traction is only very gradual down to 2/3 deg so I think you may find the improvement is due either to placebo or condition of the tyres you replaced or lack of sufficient heat in the summer tyres when first driving (they do indeed take a little longer to warm up at around 5/6 deg of course).

obviously apart from snow, i really cant see the point - have enjoyed many winters in all sorts of sports cars and only couldnt make out of the drive once - i will be saving my money!
Winter tyres are awesome, it's not just snow they're good in.Doesn't need to cost £2k though
Good tyre pics but I thought the correct tyre size on 18" rear was 265/35/18.
No worries, but for 2k you can buy a disposable shopping car which will do a better job when the snow falls.
Not sure how severe the docklands gets in winter but I live on the Scottish borders and it works for me.

265/40/18 summer tyre size on my 987.1 S so I guess Porsche recommend a 255 section rear winter tyre (same profile) as trying to find a 265 40 winter tyre is like trying to find rocking horse manure. Hadn't realised until now that the recommendation winter tyre (rear) was 255, rather than 265.

If these OEM wheels and N2 Michelin rated tyres can be had for cheaper brand new, in stock, from a reliable vendor, then please post the links here.
I am sure there will be a few people interested in getting them for £1,000.
Places like design911 will do a set of OEM wheels and tyres for £1,600 but its not clear if the are N rated and I wanted the Michelins.
I also run a PUG206 which will also have Michelin Alpins fitted and she is worth about a tenner.

Carl they look great but for thsoe grumbling about the cost: you don't need new wheels as well as tyres.
I swapped my summer tyres to winters for £10 a corner. Just look up your local mobile fitter or take them to the nearest specialist.
Winter tyres cost a lot less than summers, and I'm not wearing out the summers. Yet using kit that's more fit for purpose.
So I'm saving money and enjoying my 911 year round. And having enormous fun driving on snow with LSD and 2WD (when/if it eventually falls).

These guys were fine for me and they seem to have the Alpins on 18s - http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/porsche_alloy_whe...
Good decision Carl. I purchased a s/h set of Cayman S 18's from Porsche Apart last year and had a set of Vredestein Wintrac Extremes fitted. Total cost was around £1700, but they are not N rated. Yes it is a lot of money, but as has already been mentioned, you are not wearing out your summer tyres and I'm sure I won't have any problems selling them on ebay when the time comes. Oh and the difference in cold conditions is unbelievable.
