Hope you can help chaps.

A colleague of mine has a 1996 993 Turbo 4, his engine warning light came on & he has been told he needs the DME replaced. I think this might be part of the engine management system. It is about £1500 to replace.

I was wondering if he could get an upgraded part to give more power.

Anyone know about this/know where he could get a cheaper replacement ?

Thanks.

As far as tuning is concerned, there is only one site:

www.993tt.com

I wouldn't tune it though, as it will probably put future owners off. Porsche buyers like originality.

As far as aftermarket parts go, this is probably a Bosch part, but I doubt German and Swedish will stock it. The best people to speak to are Douglas Valley Porsche Disamntlers (01257 472866) who may have a scond hand DME for sale. Typically, 'salvage' parts are a third of OEM price or less (depends on demand, supply etc).

The garage that looks after my cars is familiar with T4s, as the owner has dealt with a number of them including tuning. I have to point out that he is a friend of mine, but is nevertheless well known in the Porsche community. His garage has been the one carrying out the engine rebuild articles a number of recent 911 & Porsche World articles.

The DME is a well known fault, Its a relay type thing that plugs in under the bonnet where the indicator relays go etc.

Cost £25

If you have a 993 its an idea to carry a spare as they can leave you stranded.
