I've been looking at the idea of a fun car, it was between the E85 Z4 2.5, and the 2.5 boxster
I think I have decided on the Boxster.

I've been messaging with the seller of this one
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234964638151?_trkparms=...

The brake pipes and the brake disks on the MOT have all been fixed, with invoice to prove it.
The recent MOT history is good. It was a bit concerning back in 2020 but looks like it's all been addressed.

That will be a silly amount of fun for £4k.

Definitely going to be a lot more fun to drive than a 2.5 Z4 I reckon.

Just spoke to the seller now, sounded a really genuine chap, and went through the service history with me. Lots of stamps in the book and receipts, and read out the invoice from the MOT work, seems to have had a lot of work on the brakes as well.

They do seem amazing value at the moment!

I recon so now! Hopefully shouldn't loose money on it either

It's on Continental tyres, an encouraging sign, it does sound like it has been looked after. What you're looking for mainly, in my opinion, is relatively recent expenditure.

I have not driven the early 2.5, but I've heard they are exceptional little cars. And as you say, hard to see you losing much money, surely they won't drop any further than £4k.

Ah yes, he did mention the tyres too were brand new.
He's only selling due to mobility issues, and getting in and out of it,

I've read great things about them and they sound fantastic too. It will be enough power for me too.

This one seems to have an OEM carbon interior.

It does seem amazing value for the car, I can't seem going down any more hopefully!

I do like the Ocean blue? And red interior too

Picked up a 2006 Cayman S for £14k a couple of months ago:

63K miles, 4 owners, decent history including a new short block from Porsche 15k miles ago. It's had various bits of suspension done and drives very nicely. It's got a Milltek exhaust and that's it. Poverty spec on the options but other than Cruise I'm not really missing anything I wanted.

I've had it aligned and put it through a major service. Tyres are a problem on 18's, there's no really sporty options for the rear. I'm hoping Michelin see the light and offer the new PS S5's in 265/40R18 for Caymans, Boxsters and Z4's.... It's on Bridgestone AD050A's at the moment and to be honest on the road they're doing fine. I'm swapping to some 981 Alloys when I get round to it, to update the looks, and just working out spring/damper options to get it a smidge sharper handling.

Enjoying it so far!

That looks a cracking buy, hopefully no bore score issues with the short block. What is the colour?

My Cayman is on the same wheels as you, and by the end of the year will need new rubber.

Yoko Advan V105 are available for the 18s. It's a pretty nice tyre. For fun road driving. Not a track tyre, if that's what you mean.

Thanks. It's Seal Grey. The interior is the deep blue one which isn't my first preference but I prioritised the mechanicals in my search! Can't have it all at my end of the market... It's all perfectly liveable. Also came with an android auto compatible Sony touch screen which is a major bonus. Really updates the interior too getting rid of the old stock unit (which came with the car in a box).

My thinking with the engine is that it'll last longer than I'll likely own the car. It uses no oil and has a clean bill of health from the specialist who inspected and serviced it, so it's a case of fingers crossed and get on with enjoying the car. It was fitted in 2014 but oddly has no serial number on the block despite coming from Porsche....

Got a few bits to go on it to make sure it's prepped for a trip to the ring in summer. Can't wait.

Back to the search!

A friend of my brothers who has a 98y kindly offered to check over the blue 2.5 in Cambridge for me. Seller said that was all fine. The chap who was due to see it next week got a message saying 'sorry its sold to his cousin, as his car broke down last night' seems a bit odd, but possible..

Somebody else probably bought it. I had exactly the same sort of reasoning on a house having agreed a price and it supposedly coming off market.

Very strange, I had a good chat with him in the afternoon too.

Somebody with the money there and then is better than a viewing and inspection a week later. It's like job offers, you want to be in the game for all of them but you have a choice to make when the first offer is made.

Very true. I did offer a holding deposit as well until the check was done.

A holding deposit is not a sale.

You want to have a long chat with the seller and ask lots of questions. Then you want to organise for someone else to give it a little bit of a mini inspection. This is how you buy a car.

Someone else might just call the guy and arrange to go see it. They might arrive with all the money on the first meeting and do the deal, there and then, job done.

Don't forget that many people could be chasing the same car as you. These people will behave differently to you. Sellers like to say I have a couple of other people interested and sometimes they keep their cards close to their chest. For all you know he might have 10 people interested in the car or none at all.

Seller wants to sell. You want to buy. In this instance the seller decided to choose a different buyer. We will never know why.

Remember for next time that good cars sell fast. If you snooze you lose.

Yep. Especially so on a well-priced car at this time of year.

Turn up, quick chat and check of bodywork, short drive with owner, flick through the paperwork and "I will take it, mate" - all done in an hour or so.

Very true that, will definitely know for next time. To be honest, I do usually rush it to it and go to see it/buy it. This was the first time I decided to get one checked over.

Checking it over is fine. But rush rush rush. Don't ask the seller if it is OK to wait. Dont dilly dally. If you like the car push push push.

Will definitely make sure for the next one!

There's another one, a Silver with Terracotta leather in Wales which I'm going to enquire about.
