Everything becomes a thing when there are few enough of them left.

I dread to think what the comments are going to be if/when the Boxster reaches SOTW!

I’m not sure we’ll reach a point where a properly running Boxster hits shed territory.

Of course some have sold for shed money, but they will have issues and be on FB/ eBay etc rather than a PH classified.

I agree, unless of course SOTW continues its recent trend of upping the limit by £500 every few months.

Thought I should join in, bought this a month ago. Not too shabby, needs some TLC but already has a Hartech rebuild.

After owing 986S and a 987 Boxters my wife insisted my third Porker would be a tin top. £11k on this 84k 987 Cayman 2.7, a few extras heated seats, sports steering wheel, some kind of after market splitter, embossed headrests. Aircon not cold though, hope it is just a regas.

It's got some front grilles on but if they were put on without cleaning between the rads then they may be corroded.

A properly sorted and restored 944 turbo is a very capable car.. in their era the 911 by comparison seemed agricultural..byebye

Still a very balanced and fun car but a good one would probably not be poverty money anymore.

Thanks, I will have a look and see. You can test for pressure by pressing the valve under plastic covers in the frunk I think. The air is slightly cold.....

I’m sort of obsessing over this at the moment from the classifieds. How likely is it to go up in smoke and need a rebuild? Or have I spent too much time on t’internet…

With that budget, I'd be looking for a Gen 2. This one looks to be excellent value:

For me it was a 2.7 or a 2.9, risk of bore score too great. Even if you get it scoped it can get you later on, and it is up to £12k to sort.

The only reason to get a 2.9 is the 6th gear and more midrange grunt that I could see. My 2.7 has to be revved, and sounds great.

I did that same and got a 2.7. It is a glorious little engine.

Gorgeous spec, but expensive for the mileage. Bore scoring risk is very real and much more of a risk on that particular 3.4 lump than IMS ever was of any of them.

Still buyable, but only way to be absolutely sure if that's what you need to feel comfortable (well, nearly absolutely sure) is to take the sump plate off and scope from the bottom (early scoring is at the bottom of the cylinder and not visible through the plug holes, and really it's the cylinder skirt coating that goes first and you're never going to get a look at that short of a tear down). If you scope through the plug holes and it's absolutely clean, then probably fair to say you'd be unlucky for the thing to go in short order.

Of course, there are owners out there who will tell you they've run with light scoring on a couple of cylinders for 10s of thousands of miles. Generally, they don't just go bang, it's fairly gradual and by some accounts can be very gradual. So, it all depends on how you feel about it and whether the risk or knowing the bores are a bit gone would impact your enjoyment too much.

If you're pretty relaxed about it, perhaps get the bores scoped by the plug method and if clean you should be good for a fair old while. But I'd personally want at least £2k off the price at that mileage, purely in market value terms.

2.9 gen 2 as mentioned a good compromise, but gen 2 cars in general are very hard to find in a decent spec and the 2.9s particularly hard. Only ever seen one gen 2 UK Cayman with the Cocoa interior as per your gen 1, for instance. Of course, if not worried about spec, then should be pretty easy to find one.

Probably over budget, but this is a nice 2.9 with a reasonable spec:

Was for sale privately until recently and would probably have been in budget then.

You might be lucky / unlucky - there's an air-con pipe union under the car on the drivers side just ahead of the rear wheel, which has a pair of seals that can fail over time. The seals cost buttons, but sometimes (as with my 997) the union seizes and needs to be cut off and replaced. Including the regas it cost almost £200 total last year.

650 miles of mostly Welsh roads this week.

It is certainly a cracking car for swallowing miles and having a good blast on fast A road.

Evo triangle was interesting in the snow though!!

I've been looking at the idea of a fun car, it was between the E85 Z4 2.5, and the 2.5 boxster
I think I have decided on the Boxster.

I've been messaging with the seller of this one
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234964638151?_trkparms=...

The brake pipes and the brake disks on the MOT have all been fixed, with invoice to prove it.
