Lost My Company Hack a couple of months ago and getting cheesed off at home unable to get out. I transport a trials bike around for my Son and am looking to get a cheapish car to get around in so the wife has her Almeira at Weekends. Those coming to mind under £1K are the Mondeo, Vectra or similar in estate or hatch form. Xantia's seem very cheap for thier age. Now I had a BX but was put off by it needing the Suspension pipes doing and the (Petrol) engine giving me some problems. Are the Xantia's better or are they still problommatic??

dont know if the xantia is better but if you lived the other side of the channel you might ask the same question about the other makes, i bought a 93L 2.0 16V VSX about 4 months ago for well under a grand and the build quality still shows and the basic service bits are available cheaply thro my local factors its ok to drive and has all the usual toys and the leather interior is pristine so were happy but the electrics are giving problems which are hard to rectify but not serious enough to put the car off the road.the most serious fault is the abs light which comes on intermittantly but was kind enough to behave through the mot which it passed a couple of weeks ago.
the abs light has stayed on since so we wont be passing another mot but the car dosnt owe us anything at the price we paid and we may replace it with a slightly newer one.my advice for what its worth is to choose the best condition example you can find of any of the cars on your shortlist/price limit
