Howdy. This is my 1993 Benz 320 Coupe with Factory Fitted AMG Gen 1 kit. The decoded VIN reveals it is very well equipped, electric memory leather, cruise, outside temp gauge, twin rear seats. It left the factory with a set of absolutely beautiful AMG/OZ 3 piece rims which have gone missing somewhere along the line. The plan is to find a set and restore her to her former glory.

Here she is after a days worth of elbow grease:

Cheers all, mileage is 120k.

Almost 20 years old and still really solid. I see no sign that the car has been painted, and bar a few stonechips, the paint and panels are superb. It feels very different to any other 124 I've been in (mostly Tenerife Taxi's it must be said) as the suspension is very tight. It hardly rolls at all and is very keen to kick the rear out, but retains (most) of that Mercedes comfort at speed. Springs and shocks are Mercedes items, but I see no mention of them being added as an option according to the VIN decoder.

A manual conversion is on the list of possibilities, and if cash were no obstacle, a 'Hammer' widebody conversion would be next. The 5spd Auto, while pretty good at what it does, does not allow full access to the m104 engine. The engine itself is strong, torquey and eager at the top end, not dissimilar to a BMW i6 of the era.

Luke.

Agreed, it's always a bit of a shame to do something radical to such a "minty" car. But it's the owner's choice.

You're right of course, it would be criminal to start cutting the car up. A modern, tiptronic type Auto is fine but this thing wont let you hang onto the gears, blip for downshifts etc, I would love a manual version, I don't care how crap Merc manual boxes are.

That is a bloody lovely car. Well done that man.

I'm not normally a Mercedes person either - the AMG bits, specifically the little ducktail flick up on the bootlid really makes it look fantastic.

Yes it will.

That's what 4-3-2-1 are for. smile

4-3-2 yes, but you must use the clunky selector and generally, it is not a pleasant experience. It should be.

Hello fellow Irish man.

Im from Limerick. smile

Love the car, it is stunning cloud9 I agree with you about the Auto Box a manual would be nicer but don't do the wide body conversion.

Also the tax is a right bh over here isn't it. €1566 for the year if I remember correctly. smile

Indeed it should...

I've never had a 5-speed but I've had several 4-speed Mercedes autos and have found them reasonably co-operative and controllable. Avoid "E" mode, it doesn't save fuel and just makes the 'box utterly unresponsive. If it's still unwilling to downshift part throttle in "S" you possibly have a vacuum leak.

Oh yes; lovely car, I'm very jealous!
