Hi all,

Been a member for a while so thought I would show the masses my motor and previous hacks. Im 20 and a Trainee Surveyor. I drive quite a bit but nothing ridiculous. I really love my cars and am aspiring for something RWD when insurance allows, although an MX5 is tempting.

At 17 I passed my test, but waited till I was 18 (3 long, long months) to get and insure a car.



A Fiat Punto 55SX! Cost me £600, 71k, 1.1 litre. Fantastic little car to be honest, no toys or power steering to break, but equally made me a better driver I think.

Anyway, as you do, I got fed up with it and wanted something a little quicker...



...enter the 206 XSi. 1.6 16v, full leather . Handled fantastically imo, relatively nippy and chuckable.

Unfortunately despite my fervant protests at its reliability, 8 months in the gearbox went, as did the clutch, so I decided to get rid instead of pouring money into it. It was at the 80k mark so I figured it wouldnt be long until belts, water pump etc would expire and it could potentially get expensive.

So I decided to look for something else. I wanted something newer, yet still cheap to insure.

I tried insurance quotes for pretty much everything, and even went and test drove a Fiesta ST which was a bit of a wreck. I then found this...



A Honda Civic Sport. 1.6 VTEC, 17k, FSH, 2 owners in the same family.

Yes, yes I know it isnt a Type R, but it handles well and the engines quite peppy.

Not done anything to it except fit an i-pod headunit (which was a right ballache!). Planning to keep it till next May when im 21 and can get something proper!

You shouldn't be struggling with insurance that much at your age, you got any claims/points?

Nice. Did you have to remove the lower dash to change the stereo?

I have 2 years no claims, 2 years experience (at the moment, will all be 3 next year), and live in a decent area but I really dont want to spend more then a grand on insurance. This costs me £750 fully comp, whereas the Punto was £1300!

Yeah, had to take off the gearstick surround and the whole centre bit. Took me ages the first time but now I can do it in record time!
