Yep, Friend at work offered me it and i couldn't refuse seeing as there was no way in hell my crapbox Escort would see it through the next MOT!

It's a 1.4L Mk3 Merit Astra smile

1993, 5Door
90K Miles
Full Serivce history
9 Months MOT
6 Months Tax

Only paid £250. His dad didnt need it anymore.
Nothing wrong with it bar a tiny bit of arch rust which i am going to sort tommorow and the central locking doesnt work, which doesnt bother me smile

No plans to mod it as of yet.. Added a PH Sticker of course smile Probably going to just run it till it croaks.

Needs a good clean, but heres how it is now i've got it home. smile

Pictures : biggrin

Mhm, Tax and MOT Is like £100 odd? So technically payed £150 ish for a car with full service history that runs lovely. And it's not too bad on insurance, see'ing as im only 18 biggrin

I kinda like it, It's no Escort but its still nice to drive.

Nothing wrong with it in my opinion, my sister in law had one for several years and it never let her down.

Got to lose the naff wheel trims tho.

Noooo, keep the stock wheels!

Definitely nothing majorly wrong with them, engines tend to go on forever, relatively sweet.

Now, which version of the 1.4i is it - I think they did 60bhp (economy), 82bhp (normal) and a 16valve variant with 100bhp? I remember having one of the 60bhp variants for a long business trip (I stupidly just asked for "a car for the trip"). It wasn't fast, but it was surprisingly relaxed on the motorway.

That's not bad actually - those alloys aside (bit horrid in my view).
Looks surprisingly tidy inside too for its age.

Edit- nice little sticker too thumbup

Pocket money motoring, I love it.

And I like how enormous the temperature gauge is.

I had one of those as my first car, you can go straight over a kerbed roundabout at speed in them, as another member of this forum will confirm.

Cool an astra to go with my bargain project one too.

Although I paid the dizzy sum of £350 with no tax but 11 months MOT.

Mine is a special edition one though, the Atlas with the economy 1.6 engine, so really really worth the extra money.. ha ha

The good thing is cheap parts.
GSI real light clusters 99p plus £3.00 postage off Ebay
4 Alloys 14" with matched decent Avon tyres £40 off ebay, reduced to £18, once I sold my old wheels and trims.
89p for clear side repeaters
free de badging
£25 for a alpine CD player Ebay
Got some pedals and dash LEDs to go on mine
Watch for sensors failing, and head gaskets, but It cost me IIRC £50 for a full service and head gasket replacement along with cam belt when mine went. That was with OEM parts and DIY

Reminds me I need to take pics and report progress on my astra too.

Bargain buy. Trying to get anything remotely reliable and roadworthy for under £500 these days is a mission!

Incorrect. In the last six months alone I've bought:

- BMW E30 318i Auto with 9 months MOT and 3 months tax for £200.
- Jaguar XJ40 Sovereign 4.0 with 1 months MOT and 1 months tax (but in mint condition) for £400.
- VW Vento 1.9 TDI with 6 months MOT and no tax for £350 (and the added advantage of 50+mpg).

All of these cars are still going very strong with no issues to their name (other than an oil leak from the BMW's sump caused by a bit of a speedbump bash).

This looks very nicely priced for an 18 year old's runaround though. I bought a Rover 420 GSI with 8 months MOT and 6 months tax for £250 at the same age and it did me very proud, hopefully this car'll be much the same for you.
