I'm in the process of speccing a Caterham R400 and think that a 'retro' racing colour scheme would be quite cool. Top of the list at the moment are the Gulf colours or John Player aka 70's Lotus. Any suggestions?

Good idea, didn't think of that one. I watched Le Mans on DVD last night for some inspiration but no joy. I know Radical had a demo in JPS colours which looked quite cool in a retro kind of way.

An R400 is not a retro car, you need something to make it stand out. Makes it safer too as other see you comming (Rapidly!)

I'd suggest Aztec Orange but I would wouldn't I.

seen a couple of 'Gulf' Caterhams...

however, a true pro would paint their car in 'pink-pig' (or bertha-pig to the germans) colours... this has to be one of the most outrageous AND recogniseable colourschemes ever...

basically, people were a bit rude about the 917 longtail saying it looked a bit like a Pig... Porsche's response was to decorate one with Butcher's Meat Cuts...

here's a picture (sorry its B&W) to show how cool it looks:

Perhaps you could copy the dotted lines but name the sections Ford Escort-Morris Minor-Hillman Imp etc. etc.
