Hi all. With finishing this year of university i needed to get myself some wheels again to get around and also as a project for my 2nd year doing Motorsport Engineering.

After pretty much researching every car i could think of, i ended up where i should have gone straight away... smile

Tax & Mot, 88k on the clock,. Awesome condition !

Dead impressed with how it drives in comparison to other 1.6 hatchbacks, thousand times better than my VTR. Its the 110bhp EFI version.

My plan was to convert into a track car, but this seems way to rare and iconic to do that frown

Keep it standard , there cant be many around like that now ! keep it a few years and look after it and it will become acollectable car , all fast fords get there in the end , and the XR2i was abused so not many around now . just check behind that bodykit for rot !

That looks like a right hoot biggrin

New rear numberplate would tidy it up a a treat.

Edit: where are you doing motorsport? I've just finished a BEng Mechanical degree, with 2 years foundation in Motorsport at Derby Uni. smile

Damn, haven't seen an XR2i or an XR3i in years! When I was really little my neighbors had an a blue mk2 XR2 and then a red mk3 XR2, then they also had an orange mk3 XR3i and then we moved and our new neighbors had an immaculate mk4 XR3i Cabriolet whilst opposite had it's GM rival, a mk2 16v Astra GTE. I used to have a random mk3 XR2i wheel trim in m bedroom for years. Used to help 'wash' the XR3s and just sat in them all the time! As you're going to start your 2nd year, I take it you're either late teens/very early twenties? - How does insurance fare?

Love it.

In my list in the "Cars you want for no reason" thread. Get some clear indicator lenses/side repeaters & that'd be perfect.

Ah Typo! (not sure how to edit title, if it can be done)

And i'm at Derby Uni aswell smile

The insurance isn't too bad, im 19 and its on admiral multicar. Previously had to Saxo VTR's and i think the insurance is around the same. Just a much much muchhhhh better car smile

wow that brings back some fond memories. I used to have a red XR2i on a G plate about 14 years ago. Loved that car. Still one of the best drives i think i've had. Yours looks in great condition, look after it. thumbup

Like the car, OP. Do you really think it's better than a VTR?

I don't have much experience of newer hot hatches, but I had a Mk2 XR2 and I thought the XR2i replacement was much lardier and less fun. That weas years ago, mind.

Enjoy the car, you don't see many now. Nice colour, too.

I like that a lot. Keep it standard, a track car would be such a waste.

Wow, i remember lusting after a XR2i or a RS1800i mk3 fiesta when i was 18. I had the 1.6S which was a mk2 XR2 engine in the mk3 shell and that was pretty good fun.

I do agree with some of the others that your particular example looks almost too good to strip and turn into a track car and could be kept more standard with some discreet upgrades perhaps utilising some RST bits.

That looks great smile

I'd be very tempted to get a second set of XR2i alloys and wrap them in sticky track-day rubber. Add a set of decent suspension (if the original stuff is good, keep it to one side - I wouldn't do anything that cannot be changed back to original spec) and decent brakes and it should sharpen up the Fiesta into a really fun chuckable little car.

Yes, nice car, one on my list of 'cars I wanted when they wre new but never bought.'

Agree with everyone esle, change anything you like, but make sure all can be put back to standard later. It will become collectable.

Love your xr2i they were one of the old fords i looked at before buying my S2 RS Turbo, I would deffinatley keep it standard or atleast have it easily put back to standard.

My RS if you fancy a look : http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Nice looking example that.

I used to have a red one on an H plate. good fun little car, but I seem to remember it struggling for traction. Nothing an RS Turbo LSD wouldn't sort out.
