Posted a thread a few weeks ago when I got my MX5.

One of the little niggles it had were some bird crap stains in the paint on the bonnet which I hoped would buff out.

I bought myself a new dual-action buffer and some Menzerna polishes especially for soft paint (which the Mazda has), also got some new Collinite 915 wax at the same time.

Today I finally got round to having a go at the bonnet, and to say i'm happy with the results is an understatement!

I'll let the photos do the talking.

Last weekend I attacked my Mrs' yellow Suzuki Ignis as the paint had become quite oxidized. It was difficult to see when the whole car was like that, but you can see the before and after comparison in the following photos!

Steven

Looks great, and the difference on the Ignis is really noticeable. I was wondering about getting a buffer, I'm about to get an MX5 with really faded paint and want to give it go myself before giving it over to a pro, was it easy to use without getting swirls?

I was self employed as a valeter in '96/'97 so i have a bit of experience, but things have moved on a lot since then.

I used to have a Sealy rotary buffer, single speed, 1,600 RPM and lethel in the wrong hands to car paint.

Modern machines, especially dual action ones with variable speeds are very safe, and easy to work with.

I used a DAS-6 polisher, and started with a Sonus SFX-1 spot pad and Menzerna Intensive Polish (PO85RD 3.02).

Did 2 passes at speed 2 to spread the product, 3 passes on speed 4 and 3-4 on speed 6, moving around 1" every second.

Then I switched to a Sonus SFX-2 spot pad and Menzerna Final Finish (PO106FA) with the same pass and speed combinations as before.

I finished with a coat of Collinite 915, i'll add a second tomorrow.

The Suzuki also has soft paint so the same products work well with that.

I bought the stuff from cleanyourcar.co.uk and there are very good tutorials on detailingworld.com

Cheers,
Steven
