A few weeks back, a drifting guy I know posted a video on Facebook of him tackling Oulton. This prompted me to dig out a video of one of my first ever laps of Oulton and made me want to get out there again! So, I started looking out for potentials, deciding an E36 M3 (3.0) would be the basis. I set myself a tight budget for the initial purchase as I wasn't after a show-winner or top spec, just something mechanically sound... then something popped up on here for £5,000.

I went to have a look, and it was perfect! The guy was a slightly older gent who teaches for the IAM, as well as doing some private track-tuition. On the test-drive he scared me silly, though highlighted just how perfectly he'd set the car up! He was the second owner, and had bought it off a guy now far from him who'd owned it for over 12 years! So I made him and offer, and finally collected her yesterday:

And I bloody love her!!! She handles like a dream! The throttle travel is pretty long, especially compared to the one on my E46 M3, but that should help to cure my lead-foot acceleration technique on track. Here's some more shots of when I took her to my parents place (my dad couldn't stop laughing at the rear spoiler!):

Full spec is:

—stock 3.0 standard motor
—Supersprint decat and rear box
—Bilstein PSS9 suspension
—E46 uprated rear top mounts.
—Front brakes: AP 4 pot calipers with brand new 330mm discs and Mintex 1155 pads
—Rear brakes: standard rear discs and Mintex 1155 pads
—Motul RB600 race fluid
—Braided clutch hose
—Uprated front bar with 325 drop links to the wishbones rather than the roll bar tied to the strut casing
—Full strut bracing front and rear
—Rear differential recently replaced (stock 3.0 M3 LSD)
—GTR rear wing and front GT lower splitter elements
—Alcantara interior
—4 Black powder coated BMW Motorsport road wheels with Bridgestone SO3 tyres
—4 Silver powder coated BMW Motorsport wheels with Kumho V70s
—4 Silver Motorsport wheels with Kumho V70s (currently for sale)

The paint's a little flat, but seems pretty genuine, and the rear arches need doing (any recommendations in the Manchester area?) but she'll track straight out-of-the-box which is just perfect!!!

Plans initially are to replace the bus-wheel for a dished suede one.

Oh, and track her as much as possible this year!!! biggrin

Very nice thumbup

Great mods too. Not keen on the spoiler though.. I would take out the extender bits if you can to make it into the standard GT spoiler. (Ive got the standard one and love it biggrin )

Unfortunately it's one of the lightweight (hollow) Geoff Steel ones so it's a 2 piece (I think) mould; the deck, and the entire top section with the supports. Still a lot lighter than the heave BMW OEM M3 one biggrin

How about these?
Much cheaper but you'd need brackets and disks.

There was a bloke selling TVR branded AP 4-pots at about £300, excess stock presumably- a local guy used a set on his 400bhp S3. Not on Ebay anymore though...

FWIW, it's because I always used to want to be a surgeon, but have zero hand-eye co-ordination and twitchy fingers. I neither bat for the other team, nor dismember people for the mob.

Just a bit of banter, i'm not gay either, just thought it was amusing.

I know, (well, I didn't know you weren't gay), but felt it did need explaining as it's odd to say the least wink

WANT.

This looks great, I love the spoiler and the wheels! And the spec seems very professional!

I miss both the E36 M3's I had, particularly my Estoril Blue Evo which had the same seats yours has - they are may favourite of the vadars I think.

Enjoy it - I want another one!
