After a bit of a "What car to buy?" dilemma that has run for just over a year, I finally decided! Picked up this 2006 650i Sport at the weekend. It's a bit older than I would have liked but with only 17000 miles on it's pretty much like new still. Spec I can remember is; Monaco Blue, Cream leather, Leather dash and instrument binacle, Logic-7, Pro Nav, High Beam Assist (not liking this, can it be turned off?)

Very impressed with it so far, it's a hugely competent car that just soaks up the miles like a sponge. Done around 300 miles so far and averaged 19.8mpg now, did 200 of those the day I collected and it and it felt like 20. The interior is excellent, supremely comfortable and the Logic-7 stereo is nice too.

We're off to France in June to see family and it just so happens to be Le Mans weekend too, we had hired a Caterham to take but have rebooked that for later in the year. The 650 is made for journeys like that so we have to take it!

It's got to go back to BMW and have a few chips and a mark on the lacquer blown over so once that's done I'll have it machine polished to get the gloss back. Also booked in for an iPod interface to be fitted and iDrive updated so I can get 7 digit postcodes working.

I drove a Monaco blue 630i but with black and whilst nice, with 50k miles on it was showing the age quite a bit plus the Cream just makes it look a lot more classy.

Quite pleased with the sunroof too.

What's it like? Infectious! I'm expecting my MPG to go up a bit once the novelty of slowing down, switching to sport and then nailing it wears off a bit smile

That sir, is a nice car. I haven't tried high-beam assist, but what are your reasons for wanting to turn it off? Is it too sensitive?

Drove home on the Sunday night and it kept switching down as soon as it caught the glare from a road sign. It also seems to take a while to switch back up when leaving an area with street lights/signs.
Need to delve into the iDrive and have a look.

One of the best bits so far though is the remembering of settings for each key. Normally we just use one key and shut the other away. This time we've allocated a key each as the car will remember the seat and steering wheel position (and go to it when you unlock!) along with other settings like aircon flow distribution and strength.

I didn't know the BM keys do this. That is a very nice feature cool

Have you had a chance to hustle it yet? I'd imagine that it would feel quite a big car (because it is, really) but presumably very BMW-like.

It's in the owners manual. With my wife standing 5'1" tall and me a foot more, moving the seats around via the switches takes some time. Having them set to start moving on unlocking is just brilliant. Air circulation is great, I like more to be sent to the footwell where as she is always cold! The programmable buttons on the wheel can be set along with all options for the HUD (which I don't have unfortunately!) You can even go as far as setting the stereo source and switch on volume IIRC?

There is a PDF of the manual here: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Content/Owner/Owner...

Go to page 29 "Personal Profile"

Not really had the chance yet. My wife has been with me for most of the time and she doesn't like me pressing on with her in the car.
When I test drove another 650 I was very surprised by how "un-barge-like" it felt tbh. It's definitely a big old car, but still seems to handle fairly well.

I haven't turned off the traction control yet either, the light comes on quite a bit!

M6 would have meant an older car with a much higher mileage. Also, for what I've spent it would have been the very bottom of the M6 price bracket (if at all tbh!)

Love the piano black dash insert with the light leather.

I went for black leather and lighter aluminium inserts.

Going to be getting some pictures up shortly.

Bizarre. I used to think these things looked unpleasant, but there is now something very right about them, they just look so well proportioned. How did that happen?

That, Sir, is absolutely gorgeous, looks really planted on those wheels, and a lovely interior!

Enjoy!
