Bye Bye golf, Hello Accordian!!
Discussion
So, after months of driving a car that i constantly feared would die an epic death, i finally got myself a new car.
I got myself a 2001 Honda Accord 1.8i VTEC S, in blue, with 63k on the clock, 90% service history, 12month warranty for £2700
A couple of plans for it, but nothing major.
In comparison to the golf it handles like a boat, pitching and rolling over bumps, so a 40mm drop is in order to bring it down to Type S / Type R height. and stiffen it all up a bit.
Going to colour code the bump strips and door handles, Get the smoked Type R tail lights and (god forbid) a type r spoiler.
Justification for the spoiler.
As its a saloon the back looks far to long and boring, and needs something. If i got the Sport spoiler it would block the third tail light, so the type r spoiler ticks that box, and if im honest, i really like the look of it.
(for the record im not making a type r replica!)
At the moment it has only had one modification, An induction cone, And for good reason. VTEC.
Even though its not full blown DOHC vtec there is still a cross over. With standard breathing aparatus this cannot be heard but with a cone before 4100rpm you get a mild burble at full throttle, then above 4100rpm you get an actual roar. Its addictive.
The car itself is wonderful to drive, holds the road amazingly well for what it is, and is rather responsive when it comes to changing direction and makes back lane hoons a joy. the engine pulls well, is lovely and smooth and sounds brilliant when in vtec.
All in all im really pleased with it. Insurance isnt too bad either, the golf (mk3 1.6) was a group 9 insurance, this is a group 8e.
Anyway, enough blabbering here is a picture.
I've had it now for 3 weeks but only taken one pic and really need to get around to taking some more.
The new accord:
The old (infamous) golf:
If im honest, i miss the golf.
I miss making small children cry when the car backfires on the overrun, and i miss being deafened and rattled to pieces when ragging it around my local A and B roads.
But then on the other hand, i love the accord for the suprise factor.
People think of it as an old mans car, and i constantly get asked 'When did you turn 80?'
But find the right gear and find the loud pedal and it picks up pace so effortlessly its brilliant. leaving chavs in the micra's saxslows and course-la's behind when they tailgate is a good laugh as they dont expect it.
Anyways I'll be quiet now and go and get some more pictures to add here tomorrow

Good buy, i understand even the 1.8 engine lump is quite eager.
Out of interest, would there be noticeable difference in insurance between this and the Type R (group 14 probably)?
this is a group 8 the type r is a 17, so quite a big difference.Out of interest, would there be noticeable difference in insurance between this and the Type R (group 14 probably)?
1.8 136bhp or 2.2 212bhp!!!
BIG difference as far as insurance in concerned!!!!

2 reasons not to bother with the Type R spoiler:
1. Its not a Type R.
2. Its the most inconveniently placed piece of plastic you can possibly imagine.
Yep it's bloody annoying. Want to see what car is behind you? Tough, you can't. Want to have the lights of following cars blocked? Ok, fine, go over a slight bump and you're blinded.1. Its not a Type R.
2. Its the most inconveniently placed piece of plastic you can possibly imagine.
I'd skip on the spoiler to be honest.
Ah, i take it the spoiler on the accord type r is like that of the new spaceship type r.. sorry i mean civic.
Only reason i wanted one is because i like the looks of it with one and think the back end looks reall mind numbingly boring as is. As previously stated, the intention is not to make it look like a type r, just make it something im very happy with, not that im not happy with it as is, but that would be the proverbial cherry on top.
Also i now have the problem that i've got one thats been sprayed my colour...
Gave the engine bay a bit of a clean and was wondering if I should paint the rocker cover black, this wont cost me a thing as i have black high temp paint from previous things i have done to the golf.
Also thinking about cleaning up the calipers and painting then just to protect them more than anything. At the moment they wont be seen as i have steelies (booo hissss) but at the moment all i can see glaring at me through the small holes in the steelies is rusty calipers.
Also need to get a new wheel as one of them has an almighty dent in it from the previous owner and is causing harsh vibration when driving above 60 and also causing a judder when braking.
am properly pleased with the fuel economy aswell. My daily commute consists of mainly b roads with a short (1.5mile) by-pass sprint and its averaging 30-33mpg which is nice, also found out that once the needle hits the last line i have 80 miles before its actually empty, found this out when i conked out on a roundabout.. oops.
One other thing about it really love with my practical hat on is the boot space!!! MY GOD ITS HUGE!!!!
I mean seriously, i opened it up expecting something small but i swear you could fit two dead elephants in there and still have room for most of trafalgar square.
This is a good thing as I play pool for a team and am often taxi, and having the car 5 up with 5 cues poking in everyones faces was a right issue with the golf, but with this the boot swallows them up nicely.
Well, thats enough yapping, I'll go out now and take some pictures.

Sorry, missed that bit last time i quoted. It does seem to be quite an eager, rev-happy engine.Pulls well fairly low down and then once in vtec there is a noticable shove in the back as it picks up a bit more pace. it takes a little while to find its feet when into vtec, but once it has then its a giggle. Between 4 and 5krpm its a little slow to grasp the concept its gone from being a 12valve engine to a 16 valve, but then once above 5k it'll really pick up and happily rev to, and bounce off, the limiter 6,600rpm.. even if it does try and throw you through the windscreen when it gets there.
Thinking about it, when i got the golf i payed £2600 @ 58k miles, this i've payed £2700 @ 63k miles with a 12month warranty and breakdown cover.
back then i thought i got a good deal on the golf, but i clearly didn't. now though i feel this is genuinely quite a good deal, would you be inclined to agree or do you all still think i payed over the odds?

first car, first crash (also second thrid fourth and fifth but shsssss), first epic road trip, and some other things not suitable for your little ears dan.
even though the accord is better in every respect the golf will always be leagues ahead, and i just cant fully explain why because i dont know how to. its just a feeling, and one i dont have the vocabulary to express in a manner that will do it justice.

No offence, but what a bizarre looking golf! I'm guessing its 'dub'? Tidy looking accord though
Nope, its 'Dubz lol init blud'Initially in my younger days i wanted to tart my car up to the max, then i grew up. I still lowered it although a certain well known tweeking company made a demon of a mistake and ordered in a 60mm drop kit rather than 35mm. so they call me, tell me its in, i take car, leave them to it, come back and my first words when seeing it were 'f**k me thats a low 35mm'
then found out it was 60mm and decided i needed the car, didnt have time to order a new kit in etc etc so stuck with it.
then a friend offered me an exhaust for free. it was a baffleless ex display from work. so we welded that on and it made no difference as the center box was to good a deadening noise.
Ripped out the center box and replaced it with a jetex microsilencer that cost me 15 quid brand new. (the company that ordered the wrong kit gave me alot of nice discounts on things as a sorry)
the noise levels suddenly jumped up. then i got bored a bought some garage door paint, masking tape, rollers and a bonnet from the scrappy and set about making the bonnet you see on the car.
Yes it IS a bizzare looking creation, but its intention was to never be taken seriously. I was just a rolling pistake that the chavs would never pick up on, probably why i love it as much as i do.

Well, some minor updates.
Went a bit mental with the rattle cans and did a bit of painting.
The crome front grill surround is not blue, as is the chrome strip on the boot lid, the interior trim that was wood look is now satin black and the type R spoiler is all fitted.
All in all im very pleased with it, and for a grand total of £70 its really transformed the car.
now comes the time to save up for the proper bits and pieces, Type S suspension and Type S alloy wheels.
Then it is complete, Although depending on the back box you have for sale craig i may be interested.
Some more details would be good.
Thanks
