Hey all,

I'm in the process of buying a 2006 A3 Quattro, and I'm worried about rust on the brake units (calipers, not the discs, which I could understand); there is visible speckling and some patches of very clear rust / corrosion - all this on a car just over 3 years old.

Is this normal? Could it be dangerous? Does anyone happen to know the cost of replacing audi brake callipers if they are needed? The problem is evident on all four brakes.

Will post a picture (link) up in a few moments...

Really a bit worried about it as I've already put down a deposit! Should I pull out!?

Thanks all

Just on the calipers or elsewhere aswell. Might be worth getting someone to do a full report on it. AA do one for £200. Pricy but involved and pretty good.

Thanks;

There's some of the discs but I'd expect that: I think it's been standing outside for a while...

That's the result of aggressive acid-based wheel cleaners. A weekend, a wire brush and some hammerite will sort that out.
