Death of a Vitara
Discussion
I got a phone call the other day from a mate asking if he could borrow a trailer to pick a Vitara up he wanted for some bits as it had been bent slightly after hitting an Astra, no problem, sorted out a trailer, he went out and picked up this Vit this morning, spoke to him about midday see if he wanted a hand with anything, so I popped up the work shop in the landy.
Greeted with the site of, a Vitara with a bent front end, he has put a ratchet strap around the tow ball of this Vit, and looped it through a fairly solid 2-3mm thick post thing, on the front of the Vit he has hooked the smashed frame up to the fork lift to try and pull the forking thing straight with little success, hang on a minute the 90 has a tow bar, lets hook it up to that, same as the fork truck, here is the vit as it looked
Big metal post thing attached to vit attached to landy, and floor it, apparently nothing was happening, I did light up all 4 tyres on each attempt, although I was told nothing was happening I did seem to be moving forward, we stopped after 4 attempts as the strap looked like it was about to snap.
This is the end result of pulling it with a landy
Whoops
All we wanted was the diffs, engine, gearbox and transfer case so we cut the front end off
We then realised in our haste to get the rear diff out, that if we removed it, we couldn't move the Vit so we stripped it for bits, also forgot about the laws of physics, ie if you have a vehicle on 4 axle stands, and you try to get out through the back end it will pivot and hit the floor (one of those days)
Then I wondered what it would look like as a convertible, something I always wanted to do was to cut the roof of a car,
Time to start finishing up and drag the carcass out into the little storage compound, it won't fit in length ways, re measured (looked at it by eye) and both agreed it was about 2 foot to long to fit in sideways
Now just got to get rid of all the bits that aren't needed for the other trucks

Nice work, photos reminds me of Scrapheap Challenge somehow.
Those Landys are bloody powerful.
You do know thats a suzuki right? Those Landys are bloody powerful.
ETA: Ment to say, yeah it's sort of scrapheap challenge, but not in the build st sort of sense, more what challenges can we set ourselves with a lump of Suzuki scrap,

We did the exact same thing with my old "lemon" 205 GTi. Stripped bits off and then cut it up into manageable pieces.
It's strangely satisfying spending a whole day with your mates, doing the opposite of what we normally do.
I'll need to trawl through some old discs to find the pictures but going from GTi to CTi to something resembling a transformer was brilliant fun.
Good effort sir.
