My Rover Coupe(and car history)
Discussion
Since passing my test, I haven't had the most blot-free copybook and managed to get a CD10 and 5 points due to a police officer who's head was up his own arse and wanted to arrest me due to my suspention collapsing on my metro(hydrogas sucks) and it rolling into a field. (I have nothing against the BiB its just this one didnt care about any injuries I had and had one hell of an attitude problem)
Anyways, after that I was using mum's mini for a while while I was looking for another car which materialised into a "modified" Rover 114 GTa and which handled and drove like a go-kart.
That was until I was on the M6 going to scotland and the car spun off in snow and ice(the police officer attended complimented my control of the car) and hit a 200-yard sign near the kendel junction(no pics im afraid).
Then I had a Volvo 460, Rover 25 and then a saxo VTR:
That car was nicknamed "dog" by my friends due to an odour which lingered in the car and apart from one time the car never failed to start, handled pretty well and took all the abuse which I threw at it(which was quite a bit). Then I got myself a Metro GTi, these things if anybody has driven one, are quick and great little sleepers. Mine had a few surprised people who tried to keep up with it on the back roads!
After it going in for an MOT and requiring about £600 worth of welding and a new cambelt/waterpump she was sold for spares/repairs and I ended up with a Volvo 940 Wentworth which, if some are unaware, came with a locking rear diff on it and although it was automatic, it was estimated to be about 180-190bhp, turbo and quite interesting in the wet!
Now finally, after that doing about 15mpg and costing too much for the daily runs to uni and back I went on the hunt for a Rover Coupe and I ended up with this one:
She was up for £900, I spoke to the seller who said they would take £800 for her etc. When I got there she was in a bit of a sorry state and was running rough, firing on three and wasn't pulling. We walked away and 2 mins later we got a call saying that if I wanted to take the car today, I could have it for £600 so being a bit handy with the spanners, I went back, had another cup of tea and took the keys for her. Got her home after 130 mile trip, new coils, HT leads, plugs and throttle body and she is running spot on. Just currently she is off the road due to hitting a large pot hole and possibly buggering up the subframe and at least turning one 17" wheel into an egg shape!

I actually quite like Metros. Never driven one but always kinda liked the way they look. Especially the more "sporty" and higher spec models.
As for the Coupe. Love it. I had one a few years back. A 218 vvc. Was a nice car but the HG went shortly after buying it. Was a waste of money to sort it so flogged it cheap. Shame as I really liked the car.
I always lust after another but wouldn't want to touch another with a K-series in it and the Honda engined ones are too underpowered. Plus they only did them with the old walnut panelled dash. Shame.

Nice looking coupe!
I bought a Rover 220 coupe about ten years ago. It cost me a bloody fortune in parts but I loved it to bits. I still think they look really good even today, far prettier than the Calibra (IMO).
L36 EBU, where are you now? (probably scrapped!)
By the way, you still got the 'targa bag' in the boot?

Thanks guys, I do find myself very fond of the coupe and quite upset while she has been off the road because of the bloody pothole I hit but I picked up some new wheels tonight(have to be 17" to fit the brakes and to fit the tyres which are 200 miles old) and she is in a garage getting hopefully fixed in the next few days. Mine is the VVC K-series and is plenty quick for me and the previous owner fitted an LSD box and had the head rebuilt with new belts etc before I got her so she has had quite a bit spent on her in the past 6-12 months!
