205 GTi - daily driver to be
Discussion
Picked this up this morning. Engine doesn't run, brakes don't work, no interior and needs prepping up on the inside.
Once the Mr2 is finished i'll be getting wired into this one. Kit off, trim off, complete treatment inside and underside, some paint, a new interior and then deciding which engine to fit.
I have a K20A sitting which i might fit with a standalone etc, or for an easier time i might just go for a GTi-6 engine with a view to S/C or TB at a later date.
It already has GTi6 front brakes, 1.9 rear beam with new discs and pads and bilstein suspension all round.
Used to have an Mi16 about 5 years ago and i'm still in love with them just as much as i was back then.
Can't wait to get it on the road.

Whats a K20?
197bhp, 9k revs and weighs not a lot.GTi6 is torquier low down i think and a more simple install.
Decisions, decisions.
Should be a good project.
I'm willing to bet wiring up the GTi6 will be easier than wiring the 1MZ into the Mr2.
With the K20 it'll need :
- Custom welded driveshafts, civic inner, pug outer.
- Standalone, DTA or similar
- Custom engine mounts and gearbox mounts
- Lots of trial fitting and measuring
- Modified exhaust manifolds and downpipes (?)
The GTi6 will need :
- Attached to a VTS box and dropped in
- Modified exhaust manifold
- Wired up
Any of you know if the standard GTi6 ECU can manage any boost at all? Say 4/5 PSi?
Either way it'll be fully detailed and hopefully look on a par with Carl's miami up there

Wiring the GTi-6 engine is a pain in the ass, but if you know your stuff it should be ok. Ditch the 1.9 rear beam and go for the 1.6 drums. They might not look as good but the braking is much better.
What makes you say that chief? I had GTi6's on the front of my old 205Mi16 and drums on the back and i felt it was a bit out of balance.Does the upgrade front and back not make for a better distribution of braking force?
The 1.9 disc axle often failed to do much of the braking (common on 205's) whilst the drum set up was more reliable and didnt suffer from heat issues. The 1.9 rear discs are only good for 1 hot use, after that they are cooked and pretty weak. You will know what i mean when on the track. And also the drums are much better for handbraking on hairpins.
Also, the standard GTi-6 fronts are awesome if you use race fluid. No need for expensive 4 pots - like i found out. They were better than both the Comp B's and the Brembos. And cheaper on discs and pads too.

They spin in opposite directions IIRC. If i were using an F20 it would be inline RWD as it was intended, but then it'd not be in a 205.
Took the rear bumper and valance off today and got a good look at the rust on the rear, will be easy to fix and treat so just need to get the side skirts off and the petrol tank out and it's decision time!
