hi there im a newbie on this site and just wanted to put something forward to see what you think,
recently at the age of 15 i dropped out of school to work for my dads company and we had to put a bit of thought in for a first car now because we have lots of money and i like to be different i was thinking something out of the ordinary that would last for a long time so...
i had the idea of a brand new bmw 330d because its a diesel for business trips and wotnot but im also considering an audi s4 insurance isnt an issue so any ideas welcome and your thoughts on the beemer.
i know im only 15 but i am just thinking because time flys and all that
cheers
steve

So, insurance not a problem on a new BMW, but money a bit tight on a track slag 106?

Obvious troll is obvious.

Yeah, get something totally different to everyone else, like a 330d or an S4...

Money no object that's what I would be getting... *sigh*

Talk about blowing your own trumpet!! ....we've got lots of money.....insurance isn't a problem.

So when(if) you pass your test, you'll be straight out on the road and going on all those 'business trips' which i'm sure you'll love, and probably kill yourself or some other poor sod with your 330d or S4.

Ask your rich dad to teach you the value of money first and start off with a less powerful car.

TBH pal the world is your oyster. If you can afford a 330d or an S4 as a first car then you dont need advice on what to get. If insurance is as easy to get as you assume why dont you just go for any car that will win you a willy waving contest.

If you want serious advice, get a car that you can learn the road in. You learn very little about real world driving during driving lessons. They're just enough to get you by. If you get yourself an S4 you could well kill yourself and I'm not saying this because you're young, I'm saying it because you WILL be inexperienced.

If moeny is no object at 15/16/17 years old, why not get yourself something like an Alfa Romeo Mito. It looks great and comes with a warrenty. It'll be fun (although I've not driven one so cant really comment) and you could keep it for a year or two and then move up the ladder.

Why do you need a 330d or an S4 at your age?

Stay sensible.

I know it would be lovely to own a car with the performance of an S4 but to start out you might as well just get a nice, desirable car that will help you progress as a driver. Why not consider a new MX5? That will really help you to learn. Its not too powerful and with your financial backing you could have a really nice first car that many many people would be happy with as a 3rd/4th/5th/6th car.

Having only sat in one at a dealership, I cant comment on its performance as a mile muncher, but I bet it would do the job well enough. It felt comfortable and well built and with the two litre engine it would be torquey enough.

Once you've spent a good few thousand miles behind the wheel you could have some real fun with it too.

Just food for thought.
