First car Rover 600
Discussion
Hi Just thought I’d to show some pictures of my first car which I brought last month. Admittedly a Rover 600 doesn’t really compare to the majority of cars here but it’s the first car of my own and I’m chuffed to bits.
I’d never have seen myself in this kind of car but being more of an ‘old man’s car the insurance works out quite cheap and I thought the car was a bit of a bargain in the first place. I bought the Rover of an elderly chap who had been driving since 1947 and had to give up due to an eye infection - he was very sad to see the car go since he’d owned it since 6 months old. What makes this example particularly special is that she is in almost mint condition throughout having being very well looked with just 34k on the clock & FSH.
Good value for money at £650 bearing in mind these would have cost over £20k new. This would have been the luxury version many moons ago - my mum told me the Rover was far posher than the car they got married in and my friends thought it was a Jaguar at first!
I much prefer this kind of car to your typical first set of wheels...what are your thoughts?

That is a fine first car. Looks tidy. The single pipe exhaust suggests a 1.8? But boy oh boy, have you laid yourself open to the average PHer mindset in so doing. However, if your shoulders are broad enough, you will survive. What's more you'll enjoy reasonable motoring at shoe string money.
Put your pipe and slippers away and progress to one of these ~ the 620ti.
Then be assured: progress to one of these and you will invalidate this comment of yours in many instances ~ the petro turbo 600 is possibly the most Q of Q cars .... In the world ...:~

Well chuffed ~ good for you... That looks excellent mate. That is some first car.
I love it when someone unearths a total gem like that with low miles. It looks minted.
You certainly could do a lot worse, just please don't stick huge tacky wheels and dustbin sized exhausts on it. When a car gets to that age and has such low miles, it deserves to be preserved and looked after. I'm sure the old gent would want that too.
Oh yeah, and be careful.

Thanks for the comments - I keep worrying that someone’s going to say a 17 year old shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a 1.8 litre!
Yeah I plan to keep the car original as I don’t want to spoil the look of it. It’s a shame to think the car would’ve gone into the scrappage scheme if I hadn’t bought the Rover there and then.

Thanks, it was quite a good find I think. Live up Glen Feshie which is basically the middle of no where...our house is in a forest near where these pictures were taken
Hey! some nice comments here which is good to see ...Glen feshie ~ Then you are doubly lucky to live in such a fine location AND have a half decent means of getting about aged 17.
As already advised, drive patiently and earn a few years NCB and you will reduce that Insurance premium massively.
I gave my son a tidy MG Metro when he was 17 and it cost him £1200 to insure TP only ~ the car was worth a few hundred only ! He was a student with a part time job at Tescos at the time so no fire and theft available. Insurance stats show those Student/17 yr old as higher risk. However, he soon got some NCB and got a Rover 620ti ( Group 17 car ) when he was 20 and paid much less than half that for fully comp including business use.
