So, the clock ticked over the 30,000 mile mark and my new (retrimmed) steering wheel arrived, so I thought i'd better give it a clean and show you how it's getting on.

I bought the car in February on 19,950 miles. Since then i've only had to put fuel in it and stick some tyres on it and had the 72month service done.

Whaddya reckon then? biggrin

Not sure about that steering wheel.

Whats the story with the front splitter on those...were they optional extras or what?

Nice pics. What has it been like living with the FRS? What did you have before? What are its strengths and weaknesses?

I think they're exclusively aftermarket, but they look so good that you see a high proportion of FRS with them.

What are you thinking with the steering wheel? Not that I can really do much about it. It was more for feel than anything, and i've already felt the benefits of it this morning when the leather was cold but the alcantara was strangely warm!

It's been great to live with. Pretty thirsty, but hasn't missed a beat in 10000 miles, rides firm but not overly harsh and quite refined for long journeys. It does what a hot hatch is meant to do really!

Like the look of that front splitter. Great idea with the steering wheel, prefer the alcantara to leather. Car looks in great nick, think hard before you sell it....I really miss mine frown

Much better looking than the new FRS, imo. Has a better 'aggressive' look, without going OTT as the new one does.

EDIT: PICTURES WORKING AGAIN! Woo.

Also: I've only just seen these on a normal computer screen and the image quality is dire. Will try to get some better ones, or a better camera!

I forgot to say. This car has been chosen for the Pistonheads show at the NEC in 2010, so it seems it's up to some people's standards!

If I do sell it between now and then, hopefully the new owner would take it along!

The blue bit at the top doesnt look great imo (doesnt look the right size and fit) and the creases where its got too much material, but apart from that the car is lovely.

Yeah. Well I was thinking this but when I researched it, a new wheel was £146-190, a retrim was £160-£250 and then I heard about this guy and the retrim was £80. I'd heard some good responses from some people but thinking about it, the guy does motorsport and the strength of the retrim would be more important than the actual fit and finish.

I don't think i've got any comeback on it, because it was just a cheque in the post. It's a good job generally and should last. The standard trim had worn really badly - it was perfect until a really hot day in june, and a load of blue just started peeling off. I thought it would be better to retrim than leave that in there because it really let the interior down.

Don't know really. Should I just ebay the alcantara one and get a new standard wheel?

I can see what people mean about the finish of the steering wheel, its a little poor but you get what you pay for! why dont you use it for a while and then re-trim/get a new wheel at a later date? You may as well get some use out of the new one
