Having at last acquired one of these great cars, I'm amazed to think that Porsche ever went over to the 996 system. I suppose the 996 is less expensive to make and that would be good news for a manufacturer, but the 993 is the peak of the Porsche 911 history and I'm just delighted to own one - at last! That Targa glass roof is stunning.
I found it on RSJSportscars' website within an hour of its posting there and had to have it - it had done less than 28000 miles! The price was very competitive - in fact, I think they only realised that it was worth more when they collected it from an official Porsche dealer, but they'd agreed a price with me and stuck to it - a nice company to deal with.
This one's a 'keeper' - I've had a 928S4 for seven years and loved it, but this one will stay!

The 993 is the purists favourite, it was this very reason I owned one for about 9 months before trading up into a new M3.

Be aware the tracking on a 993 will go out by a country mile with even a mildest kerbing, I had mine checked and realigned 4 times in 9 months just by driving it on B roads near where I live.

Fab car, looks to die for, I hope the 997 and 999 build on it's great looks and ditch the nasty lights and cup holders!

Still motoring with a grin plastered all over my face - but isn't it odd that anyone would shell out a lot of money for a seven-year-old car when he could have bought a very smart new, modern saloon with all the trimmings for much less, as well as being able to travel in greater comfort at any of the legal speeds available in Europe?
I sometimes wonder whether we're in our right minds when we buy cars! Pottering around SE London in my wife's new Honda Civic, I'm aware that the Porsche would be simply wasted in such a situation. Not only more expensive to run and risking damage whenever it's parked away from home, the Porsche is for special trips, holidays and having fun - it's the wrong machine for shopping, commuting or short local runs.
Fortunately, my very understanding wife made no effort to deter me when I told her I'd seen this special car - the argument I used when I bought my 928S4 seven years ago ("I'd better get this bug out of my system while I'm young enough to enjoy it") seemed still to be valid, despite my advancing years!
I don't know how long this one will last, but I shall make the most of it while I can. I doubt that excuse will work a third time!

Hi chaps, (newbie here) I was looking at the 993 Targa aswell but was very unimpressed with the condition of most of the ones i found. I spent over a year agonizing over which 911 to buy-964rs/993 targa/993c4s or early 996 c2 and finally settled on an immaculate low mileage 996 c2. (previous car was a clio!)I was almost desperate to get a 993 but in the end found the 996 to be the perfect car for me. not as evocative/characterful as a 993 but extremely practical and (almost!!) as much fun as my R1 bike was and .......wait for it....33mpg on the m40!
