Picked this up at the weekend-

Last owner had it for 9 years and has folders and folders of paperwork. Belts done, recent tyres etc etc. A nibble of rust on the base of the front wings, but thankfully the inner sills felt solid

So far impressions are good- no, make that great. Its first real outing after little more than a levels and tyre pressure check was to Brands for a track day. Performed admirably, even on standard brake fluid/pad/disk combo. And despite the fact the suspension feels comforatbly soft on the road on track it did well.
All this chat about 50:50 weight , great balance, steering with the throttle etc etc... well, it's true I'm sfraid to say.

I had originally decided to limit the budget to £1000 for a track toy, and was looking at MX5s for a while, but this just feels much more balnaced and "serious". _ Not wishing to alienate the MX5 crowd, please let it be known I used to drive one back in '01 and do appreciate what they are all about.

Currently no plans to do anything more to it than keep it running well. I appreciate I could strip weight here and there, but I quite enjoy the retro feel of the drive to and from the circuit.

I'm liking that!! Also been toying with the idea of a track toy - sounds like you're pretty pleased with yours!

Now I just knew someone would say that- just didnt think it would come so soon.
I suppose I could start by taking the fire-extinguisher out and removing the front of the CD player before hitting track... but thats probably not really what you were suggesting was it ?

Leave it exactly as it is so you can enjoy the track, but also summer evening drives on the road, and trips across Europe if you wanted.

+1, I think you will enjoy the car much more as it is. Upgrade brakes/suspension as they wear out perhaps but I wouldn't strip it.

Great car by the way smile

hmm... youve got me worried now!
Rusty sills , or snapped belts?- go on , humour me!

You're right about 3rd. Brands is pretty much a 3rd and 4th gear circuit in Indy layout, so it was a perfect tool.

Well, thought I'd post an update.
Taken it back to Brands for another Indy circuit day and, after a mild mini service- Spark plugs, oil and HT leads, up to Bedford- my first time there and was very impressed. Running really well.
A few shots kindly taken by DopeyDog - see the trackday forum for more.
All went well but one of the HT leads popped off in the morning session. Quick and easy fix and and all was well again. A couple of other guys up there with similar 944S2s, although in far more track focused. Still can't bring myself to do the inevitable stripping- growing rather fond of electric beige velour pinstripe seats.!

Problem now is I've seen a 968 I rather like the look of. Just not sure whether it will be £4000 better...

Very nice!!

I've a wee 2.7lux and love it. Great handling if not the quickest thing these days. She's just a garage queen though.

sadly, it time to sell.

It's failed the MOT on corroded brake pipes, and loose power steering pump.
Now, the parts seem reasonable enough (like £40 for each) but I don't think I'm capable of sorting this on my drive! Anyone have any experience of doing the brake pipes ?

Gutted- Love this car.
I guess what it has done is forced my hand into making that jump into a 968...just need to find 4 or 5 grand now

I'd ask a garage for a quote as brake pipes wont be that much to change surely?
