Alfa GTV V6 Turbo
Discussion
Ok so whilst the golf is off the road being re built, i needed a run about for the time being.
Spoke to my father and asked him about borrowing a car, he first suggested a 156 then after asking him "what else he had in the warehouse" he offered me his GTV V6 turbo..... i didn't hesitate!
Its a very rare car indeed, 1 of 7 in the UK or so im told. this particular one has not seen the light of day in 3 years and it needs some love.
Its a 2.0 V6 turbo and to be honest, it goes very well indeed, i'll probably end up buying it off him, but then thats probably why he lent it to me
Back home:
After a good wash, clay and polish:
I've not even started on the interior yet! note its a left hooker:
The business end, needing some sprucing up, infact i'll replace the chrome pipes next week:

Blimey,
didnt know these existed... That engine needs some of your TLC.. looking forward to seeing it when its done
How much do you reckon its worth on the market?
No idea, i think they go for around 9,000 euros in Italy, but i couldn't tell you what its worth in the UK.didnt know these existed... That engine needs some of your TLC.. looking forward to seeing it when its done

Yeah i think some powdercoating and a general tidy up of the engine and engine bay is on the cards, its also going for a service this weekend.
The amount of crap that came off it was unreal, i washed it 4 times before claying, washed it again then polished it twice!
The interior is going to take some work too, but it'll be very tidy once its sorted.
Interesting car - that engine bay sure needs some work though! Looks like the wheels are off a 156 which have a different offset to the GTV hence the odd look at the rear.
They were never officially imported to the UK so yes pretty rare overhere. They were made as an italian tax break special - I think there was a version of the 164 with the same engine as well.
Good luck with the project - keep us updated.
Does you dad have anything else interesting in the warehouse?!

I'm not sure on the stat's, and i've not had chance to really put it through its paces yet, it was missfiring slightly to start with but once that cleared it was very smooth and very fast, its more of a linear power delivery than a shove that you'd expect from a turbo.
comparing the 3.0 to this, not much in it if i'm honest, the turbo comes in very early almost diesel early so there's not much lag. I'd have to drive them back to back to really notice any difference between the two.
As for the offset, they are not the origional wheels, but i was thinking of getting some teledials or something to fill the arches out a little better!

According to internet-land, the 2.0 V6 TB has 198bhp, does 0-62 in 7.0 seconds, and tops out at 148mph, which makes it faster than the 3.0 V6.
Probably because its around 100kg lighter...
Faster than the 12v 3.0 V6 which I'm not sure we ever got in the UK, but slower than the 24v 3.0 V6 which was the main UK model.Probably because its around 100kg lighter...
-edit- actually, thinking about the "100kg lighter" bit, is that right? If it's a sleeved version of the 3.0 engine plus a turbo, why would it be lighter?

I've got 2 spare sets of GTV wheels if your interested. neither are Teledials.... but hey, they will be cheap! comparing the 3.0 to this, not much in it if i'm honest, the turbo comes in very early almost diesel early so there's not much lag. I was thinking about BBS LM's or Ch's in 17" but i'll let you know mate, thanks for the offer
2 of THE best wheels designs available!! FYI when i enquired about 17" Teledials from a breakers they wanted 500quid and they wouldnt confirm the tyre condition! The wheels i have are 1 set of 147 ones and one set of original flat faced small tear drop ones.

Yeah I think something a little wider would be perfect, Ch's might be better than Lm's in this instance but i've never really seen any GTV's on different wheels...

Good to see that its LHD as the RHD conversions have a bit of a 'reputation'.
Value wise I reckon in the UK somewhere around 4-5k, maybe a little more on the continent.
A very nice all round car, I hope it doesnt go too wrong as I remember a while ago there was a chap over on Alfaowner.com who had one and couldnt get anybody to work on it!
Keep an eye on the immobiliser/ECU as they dont like being stood for a long time and GTVs are very susceptible in general to battery condition. Id be seriously tempted to bung a new battery in it regardless.
Ref the immob, that would be why mine has been replaced with a non standard alarm!! Value wise I reckon in the UK somewhere around 4-5k, maybe a little more on the continent.
