Got a new steed to sit alongside my 205 GTI and take on daily driver duties.

Only had it a week, early indications are it's a lovely bit of kit. "Only" 260 odd horsepower, but a fair bit of torque means it feels plenty quick enuogh for me. Interior is a nice place to be.

Heated leather, dual zone climate control, xenons, parking sensors, TV, satnav, auto-wipers, and most importantly, the 4.6 V8 from the Ford Mustang. 28k miles on the clock, and it's in lovely condition.

It's a lot of car for not a lot of cash.

Just doing my bit for global warming, it gets about 13 m.p.g around town.

I like that dobbo thumbup

A couple of queries if you dont mind - it is a manual I take it ? 260bhp doesn't seems lika a lot from a V8 - are there any options to get a bit more ? What does it sound like ??

Cheers, DD

Hey DD! Happy to answer any questions. 260 isn't a lot for such a big engine, I think it has about 300 torques which is a bit better, but still not huge. Mods are pretty limited to be honest, you can improve the breathing with a new throttlebody and intake, or you can spend £7k on a supercharger conversion which will get you 400 horses, I think a couple of PH'ers have these cars.

It's a manual, the box is pretty agricultural - heavy gearchanges are the order of the day. There is a Rover 75 version which is an auto.

None of the other ZTs are rear wheel drive, so the 260 was converted and developed by Prodrive - this means it's got whizzy things like Bilstein suspension and AP Racing brakes.

Sound wise - as standard they are pretty refined, you know it's a V8 but it doesn't shout about it. That will soon be changing as I'm getting some new exhausts to make sure everyone knows I'm coming. The neighbours are going to hate me.

Nice one smile

I've driven many, many miles in these things, lovely smile Balanced, controllable, and able to hold any angle you may desire on your local roundaboutsmile

The Roush supercharged version is lovely, especially without the wide body kit. A positive surplus of power over traction!

hehe No point in having a V8 you can't hear! If I was a neighbour it would be envy not hate - I am lusting after a V8 and all options are under consideration !

Keep us posted with progress please. smile

super photo dobbo!

V8's are great but 13mpg stinks for the bhp. the lowest i've seen is 18 in the BM with 400 bhp/500NM on tap tongue out

Stop showing off Scho!

I won't lie, I gave serious thought to an M5, also poked around an S Type-R and pondered a C43 AMG. Then of course you have to look at the RS6 and RS4 - all insane bargains considering the original cost.

For me all of those options would probably have been better cars, but I fear the running costs - specifically the costs when things go awry - would have crippled me (or more accurately the wife would have crippled me when she saw the bills).

This thing is a Rover 75 with a stone age mustang engine, so my local mechanic can work on it and I've no fear for the residuals since it was so bloody cheap to start with. Plus it's going to sound like something out of NASCAR when I'm done.

Car looks great, hope you enjoy it.

The economy is pretty shocking, worse than my old '95 Camaro. However the car has character by the bucketload and I have thoroughly enjoyed mine for the last 18 months or so.

I should point out, combined I'm seeing 21 m.p.g - it's just around town I'm seeing the bad figures, and that's because I keep putting my foot in to hear the V8 do it's thing. No doubt I'll be even worse when I've got a new exhaust!

Paid just over £8k all in. They can be had for less, but I bought this one for condition/age/mileage and because I was desperate to get my hands on it. Were I willing to wait, I probably would have paid less.

Do like these, along with the slightly smaller rover (not sure what it's called?) that V8 is a big bonus though!

Happy motoring.

I'm seriously toying with the idea of one of these, albeit a facelift one which I think looks so much fresher. An awful lot of car for the money, and i'm in a good position working for an MG Rover dealer for parts and service too.

Having spoken to owners they are generally very very reliable.

Maybe if the right car at the right price comes up...

The noise is very good from these. I've only seen one. But my word did I hear it coming first.

Car is booked in for a new custom built exhaust on Friday morning to make things sound a bit fruitier. I'll post a before and after video once it's done.

Trying to decide on tailpipes, I'm torn between quad 2.5" or quad 3" pipes, or otherwise I can go for big fat ovals like on an RS6.

Just got wind of this cost... Luckily mine had brand new disks all round when I picked it up, so the rears should last the entire time I own this thing, I only do about 11 miles a year!
